Fontwell Park will stage an attractive six-race National Hunt card, with the Fontwell Park racecards 6 September 2026 highlighting two races carrying the highest prize money of the afternoon. The KSR Lighting Maiden Hurdle Race, at 2:55pm, and the Bison Events Ltd Handicap Steeple Chase, at 4:40pm, will each offer £10,000 in prize money, making them the most valuable contests on the Fontwell programme. Both races will be Class 4 events, while the Bison Events Ltd Handicap Steeple Chase will also form part of the ARC Summer Chase Series Qualifier, adding further significance to the contest.

The £10,000 KSR Lighting Maiden Hurdle is scheduled over 2 miles, 3 furlongs and 83 yards for horses aged four and above and is designated as a GBB Race. Later in the afternoon, the Bison Events Ltd Handicap Steeple Chase will provide a more demanding test over 2 miles, 5 furlongs and 189 yards. Also restricted to horses aged four and above, the Class 4 chase carries a 0-110 rating band, is a GBB Race and serves as another ARC Summer Chase Series Qualifier. Together, the two races provide the financial highlights of an action-packed afternoon of jumping.

The meeting gets underway at 2:20pm with the Mercedes-Benz of Chichester Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle Race, a Class 5 contest worth £7,000. The race is open to horses aged four and above and is restricted to runners rated 0-100. It will be contested over 2 miles, 5 furlongs and 218 yards, providing conditional jockeys with a testing assignment over a substantial distance.

As the opening race of the card, the contest is likely to set the tone for the afternoon. The combination of a staying distance and the involvement of conditional riders should make jumping accuracy, tactical judgement and stamina particularly important. With £7,000 on offer, connections will be looking for a strong performance as they begin the six-race programme.

The second race at 2:55pm is the KSR Lighting Maiden Hurdle Race, the first of the afternoon’s two £10,000 contests. The Class 4 event is staged over 2 miles, 3 furlongs and 83 yards and is open to horses aged four and above. As a GBB Race, it represents a significant opportunity for horses still seeking their first victory over hurdles.

Attention then turns to the 3:30pm KEP Communications Handicap Steeple Chase, worth £7,000. The Class 5 race is open to horses aged four and above and carries a 0-100 rating band. Runners will face a lengthy 3 miles, 2 furlongs and 71 yards, making this one of the biggest stamina tests on the card. It is also an ARC Summer Chase Series Qualifier, giving the race added relevance beyond the prize money.

The distance should place a premium on endurance and jumping technique, particularly as the race progresses into its latter stages. Horses capable of maintaining their rhythm over the extended trip could hold an important advantage.

At 4:05pm, Fontwell stages the David and Carol Pugh Memorial Handicap Hurdle Race. The Class 4 event carries £8,700 in prize money and is open to horses aged four and above rated 0-110. It will be run over 2 miles, 3 furlongs and 83 yards.

The memorial race forms an important part of the middle section of the programme and offers another competitive opportunity for horses operating at Class 4 level. With a higher rating ceiling than the opening handicap hurdle, the contest is expected to bring together a different level of performer while still demanding consistency over hurdles.

The fifth race at 4:40pm is the day’s other £10,000 feature, the Bison Events Ltd Handicap Steeple Chase. Over 2 miles, 5 furlongs and 189 yards, this Class 4 contest will test both pace and jumping ability. The 0-110 rating band, GBB status and ARC Summer Chase Series Qualifier designation make it one of the key races of the meeting.

The afternoon concludes at 5:15pm with the KSR Lighting, The Ultimate Lighting Solutions Mares’ Open National Hunt Flat Race, worth £4,500. The Class 5 contest is for four- and five-year-old mares and will be run over 2 miles, 1 furlong and 216 yards. It is also listed as a Category 1 Elimination and a GBB Race.

The concluding bumper provides younger mares with an opportunity to gain valuable experience on the Fontwell course. Although it carries the lowest prize money of the six races, it could prove an important stepping stone for horses with longer-term National Hunt ambitions.

With six races spanning hurdles, steeple chases and a National Hunt Flat contest, Fontwell Park’s September 6 fixture offers variety from start to finish. The two £10,000 Class 4 races headline the card, while the remaining contests provide a mixture of competitive handicaps, staying tests, memorial racing and opportunities for emerging National Hunt talent.
