FLYING FEET takes wings at Mysore, wins M Govindappa Memorial

The Mysore (Winter) Races of 2024-25 on Wednesday January 15th, featured one of the most anticipated events a the Mysore Race Club, The M Govindappa Memorial Trophy. This Class 2 race, exclusively for horses rated 60 and above, was set over a distance of 1200 meters with a prize pool of Rs. 7,00,000. THE FLYING FEET, trained by S Santosh Rao and ridden by P Sai Kumar, clinched first place in this race by clocking a time of 1:11.76. CONTRIBUTOR followed closely and finished in second spot while SMART CADILLAC was third, MANDOLIN fourth, and SEOLFOR BULLET claimed the fifth spot.

The racing day at the City of Palaces kicked off at 2:30 PM with the Mysore Zoo Plate, a Class 3 race for horses rated 40 to 65, over 1600 meters. IGNORANCE IS BLISS emerged victorious in this contest and secured a prize of Rs. 2,87,500, with NATURAL SPEED, SQUARE CUT, D ROMAN POWER, and MAGIC CIRCLE placing second through fifth, respectively.

At 3:00 PM, the Vijayawada Plate took place, a Class 4 race for horses rated 20 to 45 over a distance of 1200 meters. RED HILLS led the pack, earning Rs. 2,25,000, with JUST BLUES, PETTE’S CHOICE, COUNTRY’S LIGHT, and D GOLDEN CUP taking the subsequent spots.
The Gerusoppa Plate, held at 3:30 PM, was a Class 5 race for horses rated 0 to 25, also over 1600 meters. ECO SYSTEM was the frontrunner, winning Rs. 1,87,505, followed by NATURAL FLY, D ADMIRAL, FREE SPIRITED, and WARRIOR WOMAN.

Following the prestigious M Govindappa Memorial Trophy, the Sankranthi Plate at 4:30 PM was a Class 3 race for horses rated 40 to 65, running 1400 meters. NATURAL GOLD took the lead, securing Rs. 2,87,500, with VARDAAN, NATURAL TORNADO, EAGLE BLUFF, and DRISANA finishing in the top five.

The day came to close with the Formal Invitation Plate at 5:00 PM, a unique Class 4 race where whips were not allowed, for horses rated 20 to 45 over 1400 meters. ONE DIAMOND won this race, claiming Rs. 2,25,000, with DAVIDS DELIGHT, D LORD, SAPIENT, and INEFFABLE following in the rankings.
