Extreme Choice Mares Steal Spotlight in Prestigious Chairman’s Sale Expansion

Elite mares in foal to Extreme Choice featured in Inglis Chairman’s Sale catalogue

The influence of Extreme Choice continues to ripple through the Australasian bloodstock scene, with demand for his progeny reaching new heights following a standout showing at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale. The latest Chairman’s Sale catalogue has now been further strengthened with the addition of two high-profile mares carrying his foals, intensifying anticipation ahead of one of the most closely watched breeding stock auctions of the year.

The inclusion of Hazlebrook and Sizzlefly has added fresh depth to an already elite group of mares in foal to Extreme Choice, joining the well-regarded Newgate Farm mare Kiki Express in what is shaping up as a notably high-quality offering.

Hazlebrook, by Hinchinbrook, arrives with a pedigree that places her among the most compelling broodmare prospects set to be offered in 2026. Her record at stud has already made a strong statement, producing G3 winner Wollombi by Extreme Choice, while her subsequent foal by the same sire attracted significant attention when selling for $2 million at the yearling sales earlier this year.

Market confidence in Extreme Choice’s stock was further underlined at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, where nine yearlings by the sire averaged an extraordinary $1.56 million, with seven achieving seven-figure results.

Such demand is being driven in part by the stallion’s well-documented limited fertility, which continues to restrict the number of mares he covers each season. As a result, opportunities to secure mares carrying his progeny remain rare and highly prized within the breeding sector.

Newgate Farm’s Henry Field welcomed the latest additions, highlighting both Hazlebrook and Sizzlefly as significant inclusions to the catalogue and reflecting on their appeal to buyers seeking elite bloodlines.

“I remember when Matthew (Sandblom) bought Hazlebrook at the Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale, she was the mare that Matthew picked out and was probably the mare he was most keen to buy at the sale, additionally Adam Cook thought she was the best value mare,” Field said.

“She has been a revelation, producing good looking stock that can run and clearly she has great chemistry with Extreme Choice.

“There is no such thing as a certainty in racing, but the likelihood of this mare producing a good foal that can run is about as close as you’ll get in a breeding sense.”

Field also spoke highly of Sizzlefly, a Stakes-performed mare whose profile continues to attract strong interest.

“Sizzlefly is a Stakes performed mare with natural speed and the type of profile that continues to resonate strongly with the market,” he said.

“She is a very pretty mare that is getting good looking stock – her Home Affairs weanling would be one of the top-rated foals on the farm and physically I think she is a bullseye for Extreme Choice.”

Inglis Bloodstock Chief Executive Officer Sebastian Hutch also underlined the significance of securing further mares in foal to the in-demand sire for the upcoming sale.

“There can hardly be a hotter stallion in the world at the moment than Extreme Choice and there was recognition of that at the Easter Sale,” Hutch said.

“People all around the world want exposure to him and understandably so, but circumstances mean opportunities are limited and not to be taken for granted.

“These mares are a great addition to the sale.”

He also highlighted additional quality within the catalogue, including Vestas, a mare consigned through Newington Farm on behalf of clients of Clinton McDonald, describing her as a strong addition with notable ability and pedigree appeal.

The Inglis Chairman’s Sale has established itself as one of the premier breeding stock auctions globally, consistently attracting elite mares and producing strong results for vendors and buyers. The 2026 edition will take place at Riverside on Thursday, May 7, beginning at 4pm AEST, continuing its established theme of “Where Elegance Meets Excellence.”

Hazlebrook, Sizzlefly and Vestas join a deeply impressive catalogue featuring Group 1 winners, million-dollar mares, and elite-producing broodmares, further reinforcing the depth and quality on offer for the upcoming renewal.
