Race 6 at the Pune Meeting 2025, held on Sunday, 19th October at the Royal Western India Turf Club, saw the thrilling Dr. P. K. Sardeshmukh Maharaj Trophy for 3-year-old maiden Indian horses over 1200 metres. Esteban (J: Neeraj Rawal, T: Narendra Lagad) surged impressively in the final furlongs to secure a decisive victory in 1:08:399, delivering a memorable win for owners Mr Balam Mohla, Mr Jehangir Mehta, Mr Anil Saraf, Mr Kishore M Dingra, Mr Rajiv Tinaikar, Mrs Minal Pitale, Mr Suresh Pitale, and Mr Nihar Pitale, representing Green Turf Racing LLP.
From the gates, Esteban settled in a stalking position before unleashing a powerful late burst, overtaking the early leaders with remarkable timing. The gelding’s composure and acceleration under Neeraj Rawal proved key, allowing Esteban to cross the line clear of the pack and claim a first career triumph in style.
The runner-up spoils went to Lucio (J: Aditya Waydande, T: Shazaan Shah), finishing strongly in 1:09:329 after staying close to the leader throughout the home stretch. Santana Row (J: C. S. Jodha, T: Adhirajsingh Jodha) came through late to take third in 1:09:663, rounding out a competitive top three.
