Encino Breaks His Maiden in Sprungli Plate Success at Pune

Encino made a strong impression at the Pune Meeting on August 2nd, 2025, as the three-year-old horse scored a clear-cut victory in the Sprungli Plate, a 1200-metre terms race for maiden Indian horses. Ridden by P. Trevor and trained by Nirad Karanjawala, Encino crossed the line in 1:10.028, collecting a well-earned winner’s cheque of Rs. 5,64,000.

The contest was restricted to three-year-olds only, with many promising young prospects vying to register their first win of the season.

Encino Delivers on Debut Promise

Owned by Mr Gautam Lala rep. Gainsville Stud & Agl Farm Pvt., Ltd., Mr Kishore P. Rungta, Mr S. R. Sanas & Mr Ajay K. Arora, Encino settled well in the early strides before quickening strongly in the final metres. Trevor kept him balanced throughout and pushed clear without being fully extended.

Foxy, trained by Behram Cama and ridden by T. S. Jodha, finished second with a respectable effort in 1:10.909. Legacy, from the Deepesh Narredu yard and guided by Yash Narredu, rounded out the top three in 1:11.175, showing promise for the future.

Final Contest Ahead: The Zephyr Bay Plate

With the maiden ranks now reshuffled by Encino’s impressive run, all eyes now turn to the Zephyr Bay Plate, the concluding event of the afternoon at Pune.
