In a significant step towards reinforcing international racing ties, the Dubai Racing Club made its presence felt at the prestigious Debenhams July Festival held at Newmarket. Through a meaningful sponsorship collaboration with The Jockey Club, the club backed a 1400-metre handicap race on the second day of the event, further expanding its footprint in the global horse racing arena.
The featured race, officially titled the Dubai Racing Club Handicap, brought together a field of 11 competitive runners. Leadman, trained by David O’Meara and guided to victory by jockey Rossa Ryan, emerged as the winner in what turned out to be a thrilling contest. The presentation of the winner’s trophy was made by Ali Ali Ali, CEO and Board Member of the Dubai Racing Club, highlighting the club’s direct involvement in this international exchange.
This initiative represents the second chapter of the partnership between Dubai Racing Club and The Jockey Club. The first phase occurred earlier this year at Meydan Racecourse, where The Jockey Club sponsored the Jumeirah Stakes, won by Age Of Gold, a colt trained by Charlie Appleby. The reciprocal nature of this collaboration emphasizes the growing camaraderie and mutual interest in fostering stronger global racing partnerships.
Commenting on the occasion, Ali Ali Ali expressed gratitude towards The Jockey Club for its cooperation and hospitality, underlining the importance of such alliances in strengthening the club’s international relationships. The partnership not only benefits the organizations involved but also adds global appeal to the sport by blending traditions and experiences from both sides.
Sophie Able, Director of International and Newmarket Racecourses, echoed similar sentiments, noting how the partnership provided a platform to celebrate top-tier racing while welcoming international guests to Newmarket, often referred to as the home of racing.
During their time in the UK, members of the Dubai Racing Club took full advantage of the opportunity, immersing themselves in the local racing culture. Their itinerary included visits to renowned training establishments, elite stud farms, and Tattersalls, Europe’s premier bloodstock auction house. These engagements allowed for deeper insights into the UK racing ecosystem and highlighted Dubai Racing Club’s commitment to fostering long-term connections beyond the racetrack.
This cross-continental collaboration continues to showcase the unifying spirit of horse racing and the value of strategic partnerships that transcend borders, paving the way for future cooperative ventures in the sport.
