Del Mar Summer Meet 2025 Wrap-Up: Records, Winners, and Pacific Classic Thrills

The sun dipped behind the Pacific, casting a golden glow across Del Mar Racecourse as the final race of the 86th summer meeting concluded. Trainers embraced their champions, jockeys waved to the cheering crowd, and spectators erupted in applause—a fitting farewell to a season that captured the hearts of racing fans and bettors alike.

Del Mar Thoroughbred Club reported a record-breaking total handle of $535.15 million, a 6.7% increase from last summer. Average daily wagering climbed to $17.26 million, while field sizes grew slightly to 8.7 starters per race. The track also continued to distribute the highest daily purses in California, averaging $884,000 per day.

“While our summer meet always produces strong business results, this season received an exceptional response from racing fans both here and across the country,” said Del Mar President Josh Rubinstein. “California’s new single-circuit structure is clearly having a positive effect on competition and attendance.”

Pacific Classic Highlights Shine at Del Mar Summer Meet 2025

The highlight of the season was undoubtedly Pacific Classic Day. The event featured five graded stakes races, culminating in a breathtaking victory by Fierceness in the $1 million Pacific Classic. The performance not only thrilled fans but also positioned Fierceness as a key contender for the upcoming Breeders’ Cup World Championships. Wagering on Pacific Classic Day topped $27 million, further solidifying the race’s status as one of the premier events in American horse racing.

Other graded stakes winners also showcased impressive talent, attracting attention from horse racing enthusiasts nationwide. The meet’s ability to draw competitive fields in these marquee races reflects Del Mar’s enduring reputation as California’s top summer racing destination.

Record Wagering and Attendance at Del Mar Summer Meet 2025

Del Mar’s opening day sold out once again, highlighting its status as a major social event in Southern California. On-track attendance rose by 3.1% compared to 2024, with fans enjoying not only world-class racing but also lifestyle events such as a craft beer festival, tacos and tequila fiesta, wine tastings, and College Day activities.

“Racing at Del Mar is as much about the experience as it is about the sport itself,” said CEO Joe Harper. “We are grateful to our partners, horsemen and women, and, of course, the fans who consistently support us with their enthusiasm and wagering.”

Leading Jockeys, Trainers, and Owners at Del Mar Summer Meet 2025

The jockey standings were topped by Juan Hernandez, who recorded 45 wins during the 31-day meet. Legendary trainer Bob Baffert claimed the training crown with 24 victories, while Mia Familla Racing Stable led owners in total wins with six trips to the Winner’s Circle.

In terms of earnings, the co-partnership Little Red Feather Racing topped $1,003,500, including four stakes victories. Meanwhile, Derrick Smith, Repole Stable, and Tabor were the leading owners by purse earnings, collecting $600,000.

Looking Ahead: Breeders’ Cup and Bing Crosby Season

As the curtain falls on the Del Mar summer meet 2025, the excitement continues with the upcoming Bing Crosby Season, scheduled from October 30 through November 30. The season will culminate in the prestigious Breeders’ Cup World Championships on October 31 and November 1. Del Mar will host the event for the fourth time, following successful editions in 2017, 2021, and 2024.
