Sydney, August 13, 2025 — A new chapter awaits talented mare Cleo Cat after she topped the Inglis Digital August (Early) Sale with a final bid of $355,000, purchased by Yulong Thoroughbreds. The well-credentialed mare will now be paired with Yulong’s exciting new stallion More Than Looks.

Offered by her trainer Tom Dabernig on behalf of the ownership group, Cleo Cat attracted strong interest from buyers, ultimately emerging as the standout lot in a sale that grossed $3,207,600.

Cleo Cat Inglis Digital Sale Success and Breeding Plans

Speaking after the purchase, Yulong’s Sam Fairgray described Cleo Cat as “a good, fast mare from a nice family, a really good-looking mare,” adding that her pedigree and physical attributes aligned perfectly with More Than Looks.

“We were thinking she’d make her $300,000–$350,000 so we were around the mark,” Fairgray noted. “More Than Looks is getting his share of mares now, and we can’t wait to show him to the public at our stallion parade starting tomorrow.”

Trainer Tom Dabernig expressed satisfaction with the outcome, praising both the mare’s qualities and the smooth sale process.

“She’s a well-performed mare and a good physical with a strong pedigree,” Dabernig said. “Injury curtailed her career a little, but she could have won better races had she been 100% sound. We wish Yulong all the best with her as a broodmare.”

Other Top Sellers at the Inglis Digital August (Early) Sale

Cleo Cat was one of three lots to surpass the $200,000 mark:

  • Yellow Sam – Sold for $305,000 to Peter Dunn of Dodmark Thoroughbreds

  • Caste – Purchased for $255,000

  • Gambler – Sold for $115,000

The six-year-old Yellow Sam was offered as both a racing and breeding prospect by trainer Lindsey Smith. She will continue her racing career, beginning with Saturday’s Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes at Caulfield.

Yellow Sam’s Future Racing Plans

New owner Peter Dunn intends to maintain her current training regime under Lindsey Smith for at least the next couple of starts.

“She hasn’t had that many runs, so we bought her to race for the next month or so and then likely send her to stud,” Dunn said. “If she wins, we may race her on for longer.”

Dunn also praised the Inglis Digital platform, highlighting its convenience and the support from Inglis Bloodstock CEO Sebastian Hutch.

Upcoming Inglis Digital August (Late) Sale

With strong results from the August (Early) edition, Inglis has now opened entries for the August (Late) Sale, which will run from August 22–27. Entries close at midnight on Wednesday, August 20.
