Clean Slate opens Madras racing season with Prince Regent Handicap win
The Madras Race Club lifted the curtain on its 2025–26 season with a spirited afternoon at Guindy, where the opener — The Prince Regent Handicap — provided a decisive and memorable start. Run over 1200 metres at 2:30 pm, the race produced a fluent performance from Clean Slate, who stamped authority on the field to claim first honours of the new campaign.
Carrying the colours of owners P. Arvinth and Dhruv Kumar Futnani, Clean Slate, ridden by M. S. Deora for trainer P. Krishna, crossed the line in 1:15.291 to secure the victory.
Crown Angel, with Abhisek Mhatre in the saddle for trainer B. Suresh, chased strongly but finished a length and a half behind in 1:15.544. Aviothic, guided by Ram Nandan Manjhi for trainer J. Sebastian, kept on resolutely to take third, two and three-quarter lengths adrift, clocking 1:15.997.
With the first race decided, the season is officially underway at Guindy. Racegoers now look ahead to the next contest, the Mount Everest Handicap, which promises further intrigue on opening day.
Clean Slate’s commanding display in The Prince Regent Handicap ensured the Madras Races 2025–26 season began with a flourish.
