Ciarrai Abu overcame his unpredictable nature to produce a determined performance in the Coral Kincsem Heritage Handicap at Goodwood, securing another notable success for trainer Harry Eustace and owners OTI Racing.
The three-year-old colt showed plenty of ability throughout the 10-furlong contest, despite creating an early concern when he unseated jockey George Wood on the way to the start. Once the race began, however, Ciarrai Abu travelled strongly and moved smoothly into contention before taking control in the closing stages.
Ciarrai Abu Kincsem Heritage Handicap victory marked another step forward for the talented colt, who has now won three of his last four starts.
Ciarrai Abu hit the front with a furlong remaining but made the finish more complicated than necessary when drifting under pressure. The colt wandered across the track, allowing rivals to challenge from both sides, yet he showed enough determination to regain focus and hold on.
Bourbon Blues finished second, beaten by a length, while Evanesco produced a strong effort to take third by a short head. The result highlighted the competitive nature of the Goodwood handicap, with Ciarrai Abu proving too talented when it mattered most.
The victory continued an excellent run of form for Ciarrai Abu, who had previously scored at Goodwood in June. With three wins from his last four appearances, the colt has emerged as a progressive performer and could eventually continue his racing career in Australia.
The success also added another important result to Harry Eustace’s growing record with improving handicappers. Ciarrai Abu remains a horse with plenty of ability, although his racing style suggests he will require careful handling as he continues his development.
Bourbon Blues produced a highly respectable performance in second, confirming his consistency at this level. The four-year-old fought on strongly and remains capable of giving his connections further competitive days, while Evanesco’s third-place finish represented a return to form after some mixed recent efforts.
The Goodwood performance could open future opportunities for Ciarrai Abu, with his upward progress making him an interesting horse to follow during the remainder of the season. His combination of speed, stamina and raw talent continues to make him a fascinating prospect.
