Charlie and Surrealist Shine: Big Wins at RWITC’s Jan 5th Races

January 5th Sunday was an exciting day at Royal Western India Turf Club  (RWITC) Mumbai as the club hosted one after another seven races, with the first race being the Kazakh Plate. This race was for horses classified in Class 5, with ratings between 1 and 26. The total prize money for the race was ₹500,000, distributed among the top five finishers. The winner took home ₹235,000, the second-place finisher earned ₹125,000, the third-place finisher received ₹100,000, the fourth-place finisher secured ₹25,000, and the fifth-place finisher earned ₹15,000.

The race took place at 2:20 PM over a 2000-meter distance. The winner of the race was Beyond Stars, trained by S. Waheed and ridden by S. Zervan, completing the race in a time of 2:05:22. The second position was claimed by Silver Braid, trained by Imtiaz A. Sait and ridden by Neeraj Rawal, finishing with a time of 2:05:58. The third place was secured by Marlboro Man, trained by Subhag Singh and ridden by A. Sandesh, clocking a time of 2:04:06.

The second race of the day was the Kailashpat Singhania Trophy, a Class 2 race for horses rated between 60 to 86, with horses rated 40 to 59 also eligible to compete. The total prize money for the race was ₹750,000, which was distributed as follows: the winner received ₹352,500, the second-place finisher earned ₹187,500, third place took home ₹150,000, fourth place was awarded ₹37,500, and fifth place received ₹22,500. The race took place at 2:30 PM over a distance of 1400 meters. The winner of the race was Charlie, trained by Vinesh and ridden by Bhawani Singh, completing the race in a time of 1:23:52. Azrinaz, trained by Karthik Ganapathy and ridden by A. Sandesh, finished in second place with a time of 1:23:66. The third-place finisher was Rambler, trained by Shazaan Shah and ridden by C.S. Jodha, who completed the race in 1:23:80.

The third race, the Dr  I C Nagree Trophy, was held over a distance of 1800 meters and was scheduled to take place at 3:00 PM. It was a Class 3 race, open to horses rated between 40 and 66, with horses rated 20 to 39 also eligible to participate. The total prize money for the race was ₹689,000, with the winner receiving ₹323,830, the second-place finisher earning ₹172,250, the third-place finisher taking home ₹137,800, the fourth-place finisher getting ₹34,450, and the fifth-place finisher awarded ₹20,670. The race saw Ardakan emerge as the winner, trained by P.S. Chouhan and ridden by jockey A. Sandesh. Ardakan completed the 1800-meter race in a time of 1:51:71. Booster Shot finished second, trained by Imtiaz A. Sait and ridden by Neeraj Rawal, crossing the finish line in 1:51:86. Giant King secured third place, trained by M. Narredu and ridden by jockey S.J. Sunil, completing the race in 1:52:75.

The fourth race, the Lt. Col. Govind Singh (VRC) Cup, was a maiden race for horses aged 3 years only. The race covered a distance of 1000 meters and was scheduled to begin at 3:30 PM. The total prize pool for the race amounted to ₹1,200,000, with the winner receiving ₹564,000, the second-place finisher earning ₹300,000, the third-place finisher receiving ₹240,000, the fourth-place finisher awarded ₹60,000, and the fifth-place finisher receiving ₹36,000. Surrealist claimed victory in the race, trained by P. Shroff and ridden by jockey Vivek G, completing the 1000-meter race in a time of 0:59:30. Don Julio finished in second place, trained by Rehanullah Khan and ridden by Haridas Gore, with a time of 0:59:76. Don Julio also took the third position, with the same trainer and jockey combination, but completed the race slightly slower in 1:00:05.

The fifth race, the Indian Air Force Trophy, was a Class 4 race open to horses rated between 20 and 46, with horses rated 0 to 19 also eligible, and all horses in the race were 5 years old and older. The race covered a distance of 1200 meters and was scheduled to take place at 4:00 PM. The total prize pool for this race was ₹550,000, with the winner receiving ₹258,500, the second-place finisher earning ₹137,500, the third-place finisher awarded ₹110,000, the fourth-place finisher receiving ₹27,500, and the fifth-place finisher getting ₹16,500. The General emerged as the winner, trained by Karthik Ganapathy and ridden by jockey Bhawani Singh, completing the 1200-meter race in a time of 1:10:18. Liam finished in second place, trained by Nazak Chenoy and ridden by jockey Bharat Singh, with a time of 1:10:60. Goomah secured third place, trained by Subhag Singh and ridden by A. Sandesh, completing the race in 1:10:97.

The sixth race, the Ravishankar Gupta Salver, was a Class 4 event open to horses rated between 20 and 46, with horses rated 0 to 19 also eligible. The race covered a distance of 1400 meters and was scheduled to take place at 4:30 PM. The total prize pool for the race amounted to ₹550,000, with the winner receiving ₹258,500, the second-place finisher earning ₹137,500, the third-place finisher awarded ₹110,000, the fourth-place finisher receiving ₹27,500, and the fifth-place finisher getting ₹16,500. Axrod claimed victory in the race, trained by Behram Cama and ridden by jockey T.S. Jodha, completing the 1400-meter race in a time of 1:22:77. Amadeo finished in second place, trained by Adhiraj S. Jodha and ridden by jockey Vivek G, with a time of 1:23:40. Ma Cherie secured third place, trained by S.N. Joshi and ridden by Vishal N. Bunde, completing the race in 1:24:37.

The seventh race, the A Hoyt Plate, was a Class 5 event open to horses rated between 1 and 26. The race covered a distance of 1000 meters and was scheduled to start at 5:00 PM. The total prize pool for the race was ₹500,000, with the winner receiving ₹235,000, the second-place finisher earning ₹125,000, the third-place finisher awarded ₹100,000, the fourth-place finisher receiving ₹25,000, and the fifth-place finisher getting ₹15,000. Ananya emerged as the winner of the race, trained by B. Prithviraj and ridden by jockey Aditya Waydande, completing the 1000-meter race in a time of 1:00:33. Lightning Blaze finished in second place, trained by Narendra Lagad and ridden by jockey Shrikant Kamble, with a time of 1:00:42. High Spirit secured third place, also trained by Narendra Lagad and ridden by K.G. Likith Appu, completing the race in 1:00:43.

Sunday was the day of intense competition at RWITC Mumbai, with top horses battling it out for prestigious titles. The day concluded with thrilling finishes and impressive performances across all seven races.
