With a lucrative purse of ₹15,00,000 and ₹7,05,000 earmarked for the winner, the Mystical Million stood out as one of the marquee events on the first day of Indian Racing Carnival at Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) Mumbai on April 5th. Run over a mile, the third race at RWITC drew a quality field, promising a fierce contest—and it certainly delivered.
CHAGALL, trained by the seasoned P. Shroff and guided with finesse by jockey S. Siddharth, stole the spotlight with a commanding performance. Sent off at odds of 5, the colt displayed class and composure, accelerating smoothly in the final furlong to clinch the race in a sharp time of 1:37.080. The victory reaffirmed both horse and connections’ rising profile on the turf.
Hot on CHAGALL’s heels was the well-fancied PERFECT LEGEND, the tote favourite, ridden by ace jockey Suraj Narredu and saddled by Warren Singh. Although strongly supported in the ring (odds of 2), the filly fell agonizingly short at the wire, stopping the clock at 1:37.178, a mere neck behind.
The third spot went to the tenacious KIMIKO, trained by Karthik Ganapathy and ridden by Bharat Singh. Despite going off at longshot odds of 18, KIMIKO produced a late surge that nearly turned the tables on the leading pair. Her final time of 1:37.192 was just a whisker behind, underscoring the razor-thin margins in a truly pulsating finish.
With just 0.112 seconds separating the top three finishers, the Mystical Million lived up to every bit of its anticipation, setting a high bar for the rest of the afternoon’s action.
