The 17th day of the Bangalore Summer Meeting commenced in exciting fashion as Cascais secured a determined victory in The Squanderer Cup, a 1400-meter handicap for horses rated 00 to 25. Held at the Bangalore Turf Club (BTC), the race served as the day’s opener, starting at 1:30 PM.
Cascais, trained by Azhar Ali and guided by Akshay Kumar, displayed excellent timing and control in the final stages to prevail in a tightly contested finish, stopping the clock at 1:29.29. The win marked a well-executed effort, with Cascais racing in the silks of owner Aziz A. Jaffer, setting a strong tone for the day’s eight-race card.
Verrazzano followed closely in second after mounting a persistent challenge in the closing strides, guided by Suraj Narredu for trainer Satish Narredu, crossing the post in 1:29.35. Sea Diamond secured third position, partnered by Vinod Shinde and trained by Umar Shariff. S, with a timing of 1:29.50.
Despite overcast skies and a penetrometer reading of 4.3 cm at 11:45 AM, the track condition was declared ‘Good’, with railings positioned 3.0 meters away from the original placement between the 1600-meter marker and the winning post. Light to moderate rain was expected during the day, but conditions remained favorable at race time.
Later in the day, all eyes will be on the feature event, the Coromandel Gromor Bangalore Million, set for a 4:00 pm and carrying a prize purse of Rs. 26,15,000.
