Setting the afternoon in motion, the Novices’ Hurdle (Class 4) (GBB Race) will be staged at 2:18pm over 2m 6f 31y for a prize fund of £10,000. A field of six runners is expected to line up, including Loch Cuan, Drumconnor Hill, God Help Me, Tribal Moon, Dream Racer and Manhatane. The opening contest will provide an early opportunity for emerging hurdlers to demonstrate their stamina and jumping ability over an intermediate distance.
Providing the first handicap hurdle of the day, the Mares’ Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) will follow at 2:48pm. Run over 2m 6f 31y and carrying prize money of £6,550, the race is set to attract 10 runners. Fair Damsel, Victoria Milano, Belles Benefit, Blackwater Lilly, Gerrys Wish and Turkey And Ham are among those expected to take their chances in a contest that will place a strong emphasis on endurance.
Attention will then switch to the larger obstacles when the Novices’ Handicap Steeple Chase (Class 4) (GBB Race) takes place at 3:18pm. Worth £9,275 and contested over 2m 5f 34y, the six-runner event will feature Settle Down Jill, Passengerontheship, Back In The Bay, Justicialism, Aslukgoes and Jack Sprat. Several progressive chasers will seek to build momentum as they continue their development in handicap company.
Taking centre stage among the staying events, the Handicap Steeple Chase (Class 4) (GBB Race) will be run at 3:50pm over 3m 1f 107y. Offering £9,275 in prize money, it will be the longest race on the programme. Caughtinyourtrance, Red Happy, Stratagem, Tiger Orchid, Ivane and Fairlawn Flyer are among the seven runners expected to contest a race that will thoroughly examine stamina reserves and jumping consistency.
Further competitive chasing action will arrive in the Handicap Steeple Chase (Class 5) at 4:23pm. Covering 2m 5f 34y and carrying a purse of £7,050, the race is expected to draw 10 runners. Thank You Blue, Blue Reed, Zumbi, Am Still Here, Tell Me Again and Judicial Review headline a field that will bring together several experienced campaigners over the demanding Cartmel fences.
Bringing the meeting to a close, the Amateur Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) will be staged at 4:58pm over 2m 1f 46y. With £7,750 on offer and a field of 11 runners anticipated, the finale will feature Garrick Painter, Envious Editor, Lightening Company, Jolie Coeur Allen, Dog Fox and Goodwin Face among its principal contenders. The shorter trip compared to earlier races should ensure a lively conclusion to the afternoon.
Friday’s fixture will provide a balanced mixture of novice and handicap contests, giving opportunities to both developing performers and seasoned jumpers. With competitive field sizes, varied distances and a combination of hurdle and chase races, the programme will offer an informative afternoon of summer jumping at Cartmel.
