Danny McMenamin Strikes Twice as Carlisle Hosts Competitive Sunday Card

An overcast but lively afternoon greeted racegoers at Carlisle Racecourse on Sunday, March 8, as the Cumbrian venue staged a competitive seven-race National Hunt programme from 2:20pm to 5:35pm. The meeting featured a blend of novice hurdles, veterans’ chases and staying handicaps, providing a varied afternoon of jumps racing.

The card steadily built momentum through the afternoon, highlighted by strong performances from experienced chasers and emerging hurdlers. By the end of the meeting, several riders had made their presence felt, including a notable double for Danny McMenamin, while a series of determined staying performances defined the later races.

The afternoon began with Race 1, The Supporting UK Horse Racing EBF Junior National Hunt Hurdle Race over 2m 1f. Majordomo (FR) delivered an assured performance under Jack Power, travelling smoothly before asserting in the closing stages to take the opener and set the tone for the day’s action.

Race 2, the First Past The Post Veterans’ Handicap Steeple Chase over 3m 147y, brought a popular victory for Tommy’s Oscar (IRE). Ridden by Danny McMenamin, the experienced chaser stayed the extended trip strongly to land the Class 2 contest, which also serves as part of the Stayers’ Veterans’ Chase Series.

In Race 3, the Novices’ Hurdle over 2m 1f, Guet Apens impressed with a polished display. Guided by Craig Nichol, the runner travelled confidently before quickening clear in the straight to secure a convincing novice victory.

Race 4, the Guaranteed Overnight Novices’ Handicap Steeple Chase over 2m 5f 7y, saw Benmore (IRE) produce a determined effort. Once again Danny McMenamin was in the saddle, guiding the runner to a well-judged success and completing a riding double on the card.

The staying test in Race 5, the Johnny Burke’s Cheltenham Blog Handicap Steeple Chase over 3m 147y, went to Hudson de Grugy (FR). Ridden by Jonathan England, the winner produced a resolute performance to outstay rivals in the demanding three-mile contest.

Race 6 featured the Mares’ Handicap Hurdle over 2m 1f, where Queen Roslyn delivered a composed effort under Sean Quinlan. Travelling strongly throughout, the mare finished powerfully to claim the penultimate race of the afternoon.

The meeting concluded with Race 7, the Cheltenham Tuesday Open Hunters’ Steeple Chase over 2m 5f 7y. Bellaney Lord (IRE) and amateur rider Thomas Easterby combined effectively to secure the finale, bringing the curtain down on an engaging Sunday card.

From the opening success of Majordomo to Bellaney Lord’s hunters’ chase triumph, Carlisle Race Results 8 March delivered a solid afternoon of jumps racing, highlighted by experienced campaigners and a notable double for Danny McMenamin.
