Woodbine Racetrack will stage the Canadian International Post Draw on Wednesday afternoon at 12 p.m. ET, with the starting positions for Saturday’s Grade 1 Canadian International set to be revealed ahead of the October 3 Fall Turf Showcase. The draw will provide the final gate order for the probable field before the historic race is contested over 1½ miles on the E.P. Taylor Turf Course.
First contested in 1938, the Canadian International will reach its 86th running this year and will remain Canada’s oldest international Thoroughbred race. The Grade 1 contest will form the main event of Saturday’s turf programme at Woodbine and will carry a purse of $750,000, with up to an additional $150,000 available for eligible Ontario-bred runners.
The Canadian International Post Draw will be streamed live on Woodbine’s YouTube channel, allowing racing fans to follow the allocation of starting positions as the field takes shape. The post positions for Saturday’s three other graded turf stakes will also be revealed during the broadcast, giving connections and fans a complete view of the starting arrangements for the major races on the card.
Racing analyst Jeff Bratt and track announcer Robert Geller will host Wednesday’s livestream. Their coverage will provide details of the draw as the probable runners receive their respective positions ahead of Saturday’s international feature.
Canadian International Post Draw Will Shape Seven-Runner Field
Seven probable starters will be listed for the Canadian International, with a range of international and domestic training operations represented. Ancient Egypt will be prepared by Charlie Johnston, while Arabian Crown will represent trainer Charlie Appleby. Gail Cox will oversee Dancin in Da’nile, with Il Siciliano set to run under the care of Antonio Sano.
Purview will be trained by Irish handler Dermot Weld, while Tawny Port will come under Miguel Clement. Tomasello will complete the group of probable starters for trainer Mark Casse. The Canadian International Post Draw will determine how each of these runners will be positioned in the starting gate for the 1½-mile turf contest.
The draw will be particularly relevant to the organisation of the field as connections prepare for Saturday’s race. Once the positions are allocated, the probable runners will have their places confirmed ahead of the Grade 1 event on the E.P. Taylor Turf Course.
Canadian International Post Draw Leads Into Four-Stakes Turf Card
The Canadian International Post Draw will come ahead of a Fall Turf Showcase card featuring four graded stakes on turf. Alongside the Grade 1 Canadian International, the programme will include the Grade 2 Nearctic, presented by Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance, the Grade 2 bet365 Dance Smartly Stakes and the Grade 3 bet365 Algonquin Stakes.
Saturday’s programme will begin at 1:05 p.m. ET, with the Canadian International providing the headline event of the afternoon. The meeting will bring together established turf performers across a card that will combine international competition with major Canadian racing.
The Wednesday draw will therefore provide an important piece of information ahead of the weekend meeting, with the starting positions set to complete the race-day framework for the Canadian International. Racing fans will be able to watch the draw live before the seven probable runners line up for Saturday’s Grade 1 contest.
