The 1600m Class IV contest, open to horses rated 21–46 (with 1–26 eligible), saw Magnifico (J: R Vaibhav, T: Aashay Doctor) storm home to victory in a crisp 1:39.302, marking a memorable moment for his owners – Mrs Pallavi Sharma, Mrs Rina Mahindra, M/s Hyperion Bloodstock Pvt Ltd, Mr Hemang Devendra Doctor, Mr Viral Devkumar Doctor, M/s Deciding Factor LLP & Mr Marthand Singh Mahindra. Racing enthusiasts following the Calcutta race results 26 December will surely remember this classy performance.
From the break, Magnifico settled comfortably in mid-pack, biding his time as the early pace set by the front runners kept the field tightly bunched. Showing a potent turn of foot in the final 400m, Vaibhav guided Magnifico to the outside, weaving through rivals with precision and timing, ultimately asserting dominance in the last 100m to claim a convincing victory. The colt’s smooth acceleration and tactical awareness highlighted both rider and trainer synergy.
Immortal Beauty (J: Suraj Narredu, T: Ritesh E. K) ran a gallant race to finish second in 1:39.844, staying close to the winner throughout the home stretch. Global Fashion (J: M S Deora, T: Vijay Singh) secured third in 1:40.033, completing the podium after a determined finish.
Earlier in the day, Cristaldo won the opening contest, THE ROMANTIC EVE HANDICAP (Race 1, 1600m) for trainer B Mahesh and owner Mrs S Dhanalakshmi, with Carnation and Schwarzenegger finishing second and third respectively. Monumental captured the STAR TEAM PLATE (Race 2, 1100m) under Suraj Narredu for owners Dr Ram H Shroff & Mr Raj H Shroff rep M/s Stride Livestock PvtLtd, Mr Chetan Shantilal Shah, M/s Citoc Ventures Pvt Ltd, Mr Anil Saraf & Mr Balam Mohla, ahead of Saiko and Rambha. The GEN A S VAIDYA MEMORIAL CUP (Race 3, 2000m) saw Duesenberg surge to victory for trainer P Shroff and owners Mr K N Dhunjibhoy and Mr Z K Dhunjibhoy, Ms Anosha Meyers rep M/s Five Stars Shipping Co Pvt Ltd & Mr Vispi R Patel, with Whirlwind and ChampagneSupernova completing the frame.
The fourth race, THE UNKNOWN WARRIOR CUP (1200m), was claimed by Abhicandra for trainer Shyam S Habbu and owner Mr Vikram Bachhawat rep M/s Bachhawat Farms Pvt Ltd, while Morano and Superlative took second and third. In the fifth race, THE ARMY CUP (1400m), Meropi triumphed for trainer Aashay Doctor and owner Mr Solomon Benveniste, M/s Deciding Factor LLP, Mrs Menaka Gupta, Mrs Rina Mahindra, Mr Marthand Singh Mahindra, Mr Hemang D Doctor, Mr Viral Doctor & M/s Cherie Sports Pvt Ltd, finishing ahead of Vincent Van Gogh and Black Eagle.
