The 2nd Race of the Calcutta Monsoon Meeting 2026 at the Royal Calcutta Turf Club (RCTC) on Thursday, 6th August 2026 featured The Antonique Handicap Div I, a Class IV contest for horses rated 21-46 (rated 1-26 eligible) over 1100 metres, run at 2:30 PM. KAY STAR, ridden by A. Breaking smartly and settling into a favourable position, KAY STAR travelled comfortably before quickening at the right moment in the closing stages. A. Ashhad Asbar timed his challenge to perfection, allowing the Rutherford Alford-trained runner to edge ahead in the final strides. Despite strong pressure from the chasing pack, KAY STAR maintained momentum to secure a hard-fought victory in a tightly contested finish.
The closest challenge came from DR DOOM, who finished just a whisker behind in 1:07.936 under R. Vaibhav for trainer Javed Khan, missing victory by the narrowest of margins. STARLINER, partnered by Arshad Alam and trained by Neil Darashah, stayed on well to finish third in 1:08.496, completing a competitive renewal of the sprint handicap.
With the second race concluded, attention now turns to The Antonique Handicap Div II, scheduled for 3:00 PM, as the opening day of the Calcutta Monsoon Meeting 2026 continues to gather momentum at RCTC.
