Wednesday’s Monsoon Meeting at Calcutta Racecourse — part of the Calcutta race result 3 September fixtures — saw an impressive display of speed and strategy in Race 2, THE BRUSH ASIDE HANDICAP. A Class III contest for horses rated 41-66 (21-46 eligible) over 1800 metres, the race produced a commanding performance from Arabeska (Jockey: Akshay Kumar, Trainer: L V R Deshmukh). Racing in the colours of M/s Stride Livestock Pvt Ltd (Dr Ram H Shroff & Mr Raj Shroff), M/s Dilip Ramanlal Thacker, Surendra Ramachandra Sanas, and Chetan Shantilal Shah, Arabeska crossed the finish line in 1:53.779 to claim a convincing victory at 2:15 PM.
Settling patiently off the early pace, Arabeska showed excellent tactical awareness, biding her time before unleashing a strong finishing burst down the inside rail. Guided masterfully by Akshay Kumar, she left her rivals trailing, demonstrating both poise and power in the closing stages.
Galway Girl (J: Vishal N. Bunde, T: Neil Darashah) gave a spirited challenge, finishing just 0.196 seconds behind in 1:53.975, while Norwegian Wood (J: R Vaibhav, T: Bharath Singh) produced a late surge to secure third in 1:55.139. The top three were separated by mere fractions of a second, adding further depth to the Calcutta race result on 3 September, which featured some of the closest finishes of the meeting.
With Race 2 wrapped up, attention now shifts to THE SHIVANSH CUP at 2:45 PM, promising another thrilling test of speed and stamina in this Monsoon Meeting.
