In an electrifying display on the opening day of the Calcutta Races, Winter Meeting, Thursday, 1st January 2026, the 5th race, THE GOODFELLAS CUP, proved a thrilling contest for Class II horses rated 61-86 (and 41-66 eligible) over 1400 metres. The Calcutta race result 1 Jan saw Golden Glow (J: Gaurav Singh, T: B Rajender Reddy) deliver a polished performance for owner Ms Ankita, crossing the finish line in a time of 1:23.724 and leaving a lasting impression on the crowd.
From the start, Golden Glow showcased composure and tactical intelligence, settling just off the pace before unleashing a decisive turn of foot in the final 300 metres. Gaurav Singh timed his move perfectly, guiding the filly through a narrow inside path and asserting dominance in the closing stages to secure a convincing victory.
The runner-up spoils went to Shine (J: A Prakash, T: Vijay Singh), who battled valiantly throughout and finished just a nose behind in 1:23.771. Superlative (J: M S Deora, T: Shafiq Khan) produced a late surge to claim third in 1:24.553, rounding out a competitive top three.
