The 4th race of the Calcutta Races, Winter Meeting on Thursday, 1st January 2026, saw an exciting display of speed and strategy in The Academy Gold Cup Div II, a Class III contest over 1200 metres for horses rated 41-66 (with 21-46 rated horses also eligible). In a commanding performance, Aperol (Jockey: Gaurav Singh, Trainer: B Rajender Reddy) carried the colours of Ms Ankita to victory, stopping the clock at 1:11.380 and thrilling the afternoon crowd. This Calcutta race result 1 jan marks Aperol’s impressive showing early in the new season.
From the start, Aperol settled nicely in mid-division, conserving energy while keeping a keen eye on the leaders. As the field entered the home straight, Gaurav Singh produced a perfectly timed burst, slicing through the gaps and taking command with authority. The horse’s turn of foot and sustained drive left rivals struggling to respond, ultimately securing a clear and stylish triumph.
Oishika (J: A Prakash, T: Shyam S Habbu) finished strongly in second place, stopping the clock at 1:11.785, while Victoria Cross (J: Vishal N Bunde, T: Neil Darashah) ran on well in the closing stages to take third in 1:11.909, rounding out an exciting top three finish for the day.
