There was a sense of anticipation in the Goodwood air on Wednesday morning as trainers, owners, and stable staff put the finishing touches to their preparations. For many, the British EBF £100,000 2yo Fillies’ Series Final is more than just another race; it represents a landmark opportunity, a chance to see hard work rewarded on one of the sport’s grander stages.

Nick Bradley, who will saddle four contenders — Wetsand, Mayaada, Alarming, and Court Of Stars — has spoken openly about the significance of these races for syndicates and their owners. “It adds real value for us,” he explained earlier this year. “The prize money on offer gives our owners something to dream about, and we’ve been lucky enough to see fillies like Love Talk and Glamis Road prove just how important these opportunities can be.”

A Race Growing in Stature

Now in its fourth year, the British EBF 2yo Series has carved out an important place in the Flat calendar. Offering £2.3 million in total prize money across more than 170 restricted maidens and novices, the programme has already unearthed serious talent. Shes Perfect, runner-up in the Poule d’Essai des Pouliches, and Love Talk, who went on to be placed in the Lancashire Oaks, both came through this very race.

The strike rate tells its own story — over 21% of runners have gone on to achieve Black Type form, underlining the race’s role as a proven platform for progression.

Record Numbers at Goodwood

This year’s renewal of the British EBF £100,000 2yo Fillies’ Series Final has pulled together the largest field to date, with 14 declared runners from 12 different yards. With more than £50,000 awaiting the winner, competition promises to be fierce.

Among the trainers represented are a mixture of household names and emerging talents, each hopeful their filly can join the growing roll of honour. The race has also consistently produced subsequent Listed and Group performers — Chic Colombine, Sirona, Glamis Road, and Adaay In Devon among them — making it an event increasingly watched by breeders and bloodstock professionals alike.

Beyond the Finish Line

For the British EBF, the race is the jewel in a much larger crown. Since 1983, the fund has channelled more than £42 million into prize money enhancements for British racing, drawing support from stallion studs and matched contributions from racecourses. Their impact extends beyond the track too, through education partnerships, stallion showcases, and support of industry awards.

Tomorrow at Goodwood, however, the focus is firmly on the turf. Fourteen fillies, £100,000 in prize money, and one winning moment that could change the path of a career.
