The opening Classified Stakes (Class 6) over 5 furlongs and 215 yards produced a polished display from Bated Breeze (IRE) under David Egan. Travelling comfortably throughout the contest, the runner was positioned just behind the leaders before producing a strong finishing effort in the closing stages. Egan judged the pace well, allowing the horse to settle before asking for maximum effort at the right moment. The second race, an EBF Restricted Novice Stakes (Class 4) over 6 furlongs and 210 yards, belonged to Telegraphic, who also partnered David Egan. Facing a field of developing youngsters, Telegraphic showed professionalism from the start and travelled smoothly throughout the contest. Once asked to quicken in the final furlong, the horse responded impressively to move clear and record an authoritative victory. The third contest, a Handicap Stakes (Class 6) over 6 furlongs and 210 yards, saw Dion Baker (IRE) continue a run of consistent performances under Darragh Keenan. Racing prominently throughout, the gelding travelled comfortably before moving into contention entering the closing stages. Showing admirable determination, Dion Baker maintained the advantage to the winning post, rewarding another dependable performance.
Attention then shifted to the Handicap Stakes (Class 6) over 1 mile, 1 furlong and 207 yards, where Gone Rogue (IRE) returned to winning form under experienced jockey Tom Queally. The race unfolded at a measured pace before developing into a competitive finish around the home bend. Queally timed his challenge perfectly, guiding the gelding into the lead approaching the final furlong. Gone Rogue stayed on strongly to secure victory, demonstrating stamina and resilience over the extended trip.
The penultimate race of the evening featured another Classified Stakes (Class 6) over 1 mile, 1 furlong and 207 yards. Graffiti, ridden by Finley Marsh, produced one of the strongest finishing efforts of the meeting. After settling in midfield during the early stages, the horse steadily improved position before launching a sustained run in the home straight. Graffiti gradually wore down the leaders and moved clear close to the finish, with Marsh’s patient ride proving decisive.
The meeting concluded with a Handicap Stakes (Class 6) over 5 furlongs and 60 yards, where Rory Rocket and apprentice jockey Jude Fernandes combined for an impressive victory. Breaking smartly from the stalls, Rory Rocket established a prominent position and travelled fluently throughout the race. The sprinter showed plenty of speed in the closing stages to hold off the late challengers and complete the evening’s programme on a high note.
The six-race fixture once again highlighted Brighton Racecourse’s ability to stage competitive and entertaining Flat racing throughout the summer months. From promising novice performers to experienced handicappers, the meeting showcased the depth of talent competing at the venue.
