Blue Bolt added another prestigious achievement to her 2026 campaign at Leopardstown Racecourse on Saturday, securing the Group 1 Coolmore America Justify Matron Stakes during the Irish Champions Festival. Trained by Andrew Balding and ridden by Colin Keane, the filly maintained her perfect record for the season and completed a third Group 1 success in impressive fashion.

Blue Bolt had entered the Leopardstown contest unbeaten in four starts during 2026, having already captured the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket and the Group 1 Prix Rothschild in France. Her latest performance strengthened that sequence further, as she produced another authoritative display against a high-quality field.

Blue Bolt Produced Another Group 1 Performance

Keane settled Blue Bolt close to the pace during the early stages before gradually bringing her into contention. Once asked for a stronger effort, she quickened decisively and moved into the lead with more than a furlong remaining.

From there, Blue Bolt travelled with notable fluency and maintained her advantage through the closing stages. She crossed the line more than two lengths clear, registering a convincing victory and completing her Group 1 hat-trick.

City Of Memphis, trained by Paddy Twomey, produced a solid effort to finish second after returning from a mid-season break. Fallen Angel, trained by Karl Burke, occupied third place. The mare had previously won the Matron Stakes in 2025 and had also finished runner-up in the race in 2024, making another appearance among the leading finishers.

Balding praised Blue Bolt’s performance and suggested that the Leopardstown success represented one of the strongest efforts of her career. He highlighted her ability to travel comfortably, quicken when required and maintain her momentum all the way to the finish.

The trainer also noted a pleasing change in her racing manner. Unlike on a previous occasion when she had tended to drift towards the left, Blue Bolt maintained a straighter line at Leopardstown and finished her race with greater composure.

Her victory also opened the possibility of a Breeders’ Cup campaign later in the season, adding an international dimension to an already distinguished 2026 record.

Strong Supporting Results at Leopardstown

The Irish Champions Festival programme also produced notable performances in the races surrounding the Matron Stakes.

Arabian Crown secured the Group 3 World Pool Bet With The Tote Kilternan Stakes over one mile and four furlongs for Charlie Appleby and Godolphin. Ridden by James Doyle, the four-year-old dictated the contest from the front and maintained his advantage throughout.

Arabian Crown finished more than two lengths ahead of Sons And Lovers, trained by Joseph O’Brien, while Purview, trained by Dermot Weld and ridden by Colin Keane, finished third, a neck behind the runner-up.

The success marked Arabian Crown’s third Group 3 victory and provided another strong result for the Appleby-Doyle partnership. Appleby credited Doyle with controlling the fractions effectively and said Arabian Crown had appeared fresh and in excellent condition.

Earlier on the card, Quddwah landed the Group 2 Tonybet Solonaway Stakes over a mile for Simon and Ed Crisford. The mare raced in second behind Audience for the first five furlongs before extending her stride and taking command.

Quddwah eventually prevailed by one and a half lengths, with Audience, trained by David O’Meara, finishing second and Charles Fort, trained by Aidan O’Brien, taking third.

The victory added another Group 2 success to Quddwah’s record over a mile. She had previously finished second to Ombudsman in the Group 1 Dubai Turf in March before enjoying a summer break following a demanding campaign in Dubai.

Ed Crisford indicated that the mare could return to Group-level competition in France or potentially travel to America for another major assignment.

For Blue Bolt, however, the spotlight remained firmly on a third Group 1 triumph. Her unbeaten 2026 campaign had gathered considerable momentum, and the Matron Stakes victory provided another significant indication of her quality among the leading performers of the season.

Blue Bolt completed a third Group 1 success of 2026 by winning the Coolmore America Justify Matron Stakes at Leopardstown, extending her unbeaten seasonal record to five victories.
