The Azhar Plate, a 1400-meter handicap for horses rated 20 to 45 and aged four years old and over, served as the curtain raiser for day 20 of the Bangalore Summer Meeting 2025, held on Sunday, July 20. Originally scheduled as the concluding event of Day 19, the race was postponed due to unsuitable underfoot conditions. Following the stewards’ decision, the race was slotted in as the opener of the Sunday card.

With an average penetrometer reading of 4.7 cm recorded at 11:30 am, the track was officially rated soft, and the skies hovered under partly cloudy conditions, with intermittent light showers anticipated.

Winfield, trained by Arjun Mangalorkar and ridden with poise by Antony Raj S., justified the connections’ confidence to take home the winner’s share of the Rs. 5,10,000 prize purse. The horse, owned by M/s. Arun Alagappan Racing LLP, Mr Chandrakanth Kankaria & Mr. Haider Soomar, delivered a fluent performance to open the day on a winning note for the yard. The winner clocked at 1:28.96.

Isabelle, trained by Irfan Ghatala and partnered by Pavan, made a determined run to finish second in 1:29.30, staying well in touch throughout the final furlong.

LG’s Star, under Vivek G. for trainer V. Lokanath, claimed third place, running an honest race amidst challenging conditions.

With The Azhar Plate concluded, the spotlight shifts to the upcoming Flirting Vision Plate Div II, which promises more thrills as racing continues at the iconic Bangalore Turf Club.
