Autumn Glow extended her unbeaten spring campaign with a commanding victory in the Group 1 King Charles III Stakes at Randwick Racecourse on Saturday, 17 October 2026. The Chris Waller-trained mare defeated her rivals by 2.2 lengths in the A$5 million contest, securing her 14th career win and lifting her total earnings to A$12.7 million.
Ridden by James McDonald, the five-year-old daughter of The Autumn Sun delivered a comfortable performance over the 1,600-metre feature. She maintained her superiority throughout the closing stages, leaving her rivals unable to match her finishing effort at one of Australia’s most important spring meetings.
The victory marked another significant milestone for Autumn Glow, who had now recorded 14 wins from 15 career starts. Her latest performance further underlined her consistency and ability to compete successfully at the highest level.
Autumn Glow King Charles III Stakes Victory Highlights Her Class
Autumn Glow’s success reflected both her natural ability and the careful preparation of Waller’s stable. The mare had completed additional work during the week as her connections prepared for the possibility of a wet track and a stronger pace. According to Waller, she handled the extra work comfortably before producing another authoritative performance on race day.
Waller praised her professionalism and explained that the stable had maintained a straightforward approach to her training. Her natural efficiency and willingness to complete her work had made her relatively easy to prepare for major assignments.
The mare raced in the colours of Arrowfield, which partnered with Hermitage Thoroughbreds to purchase her for A$1.8 million at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale. Bred by Newhaven Park, Autumn Glow had been offered for sale by Silverdale Farm.
Silverdale’s Rob Petith also praised the mare’s temperament, recalling how calmly she had behaved during her early development. He noted that her efficient nature had been evident from her time as a weanling and yearling, while her success had brought considerable satisfaction to everyone involved in her breeding and sale.
Autumn Glow was among 127 individual Group 1-winning graduates produced by Inglis since 2018.
Waller and her connections planned to assess the mare over the following week before confirming her next assignment. The Group 1 Champions Mile at Flemington on 7 November, during the final day of Melbourne Cup Week, emerged as a likely target.
Grafterburners Adds Sydney Stakes Success at Randwick
Earlier on the Randwick programme, Grafterburners secured an impressive victory in the Group 2 Sydney Stakes, taking his career earnings beyond A$3.3 million.
The four-year-old son of Graff recorded his seventh career win from 18 starts. His previous major successes included the A$500,000 QTIS Jewel as a two-year-old and the A$3 million Sunlight Plate at three, adding further value to an already productive career.
Trainer Kelly Schweida purchased Grafterburners for A$70,000 at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, where the colt was offered by his breeder, Canning Downs Stud.
Schweida praised the horse’s performance and the strength he displayed through the finish. He also highlighted the importance of the result for the ownership group, whose ambitions included securing a Group 1 victory with the colt.
The trainer identified the Group 1 Champions Sprint at Flemington as a possible next target, although the final decision would depend on the horse’s preparation and the strength of the opposition.
Unleeshing Records First Stakes Victory in Angst Stakes
Unleeshing claimed her first black-type success in the Group 3 Angst Stakes, rewarding the patience of her connections with an important career milestone.
The five-year-old daughter of Dundeel had established a consistent record across 14 starts, recording five victories and seven minor placings while accumulating more than A$500,000 in earnings.
Trainer Bjorn Baker purchased Unleeshing for A$80,000 at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale in partnership with MyRacehorse, Clarke Bloodstock and Belmont Bloodstock. Blue Gum Farm offered the mare on behalf of her breeder, Rob Crabtree.
Baker praised her finishing speed and acknowledged the patience shown by her owners throughout her development. The Angst Stakes victory represented a valuable addition to her record and provided further evidence of her progress.
At Caulfield, Cavalry Girl won the Group 2 Caulfield Sprint and led an Inglis graduate first four. Don’t Hope Do finished second, followed by Bev’s Nine and Gallant Son.
Trained by Tom Dabernig, Cavalry Girl continued her consistent campaign with another strong performance. She had recorded five wins and three second-place finishes from eight starts during the preparation, which had also included a close Group 1 placing.
Joe O’Neill of Prime Thoroughbreds purchased the mare for A$110,000 at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, where Vinery Stud offered her. Bred by Patrick Hodgens and Rob Piper, Cavalry Girl had now won eight of her 19 career starts and earned A$840,000.
Quick Finish Strengthens VRC Oaks Prospects
Quick Finish improved her record to three wins from four starts with victory in the Group 3 Ethereal Stakes at Caulfield.
The three-year-old daughter of Grunt was bred by Yulong, which also offered her at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale and retained her racing colours. Tony and Calvin McEvoy trained the filly, whose latest success strengthened her prospects for the Group 1 VRC Oaks during Melbourne Cup Week.
Calvin McEvoy welcomed the performance and said it provided further encouragement about her ability to handle longer distances. The stable planned to continue preparing her for a possible appearance at Flemington.
The Ethereal Stakes served as an important lead-up race for the VRC Oaks, giving Quick Finish another opportunity to demonstrate her staying potential before a possible step up in distance.
At Morphettville in Adelaide, Kosaji strengthened his credentials for the Group 1 Victoria Derby with a strong victory in the Listed Hill Smith Stakes.
The three-year-old son of Maurice was purchased for A$250,000 at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale by trainers Phillip and Tommy Stokes in partnership with Suman Hedge. Arrowfield bred and offered the colt and supplied his racing colours.
The Hill Smith Stakes success placed Kosaji firmly in the conversation for the Victoria Derby. His connections could look to follow the route taken by Goldrush Guru, who completed the Hill Smith Stakes and Victoria Derby double in 2024.
Autumn Glow extended her unbeaten spring campaign with a 2.2-length victory in the Group 1 King Charles III Stakes at Randwick. Grafterburners, Unleeshing, Cavalry Girl, Quick Finish and Kosaji also recorded notable successes across Australia’s major racing meetings.
