Indian racing circles were struck with sorrow today, as Aslam Kader passes away on October 9th, 2025. Known as one of India’s most celebrated jockeys, Kader’s fierce competitive spirit and razor-sharp finishing earned him 1,717 career wins, including numerous classic victories across all major racing centres in India.
Riding into legend as “AK-47” for his lightweight frame and explosive style, Kader’s signature moments include three Indian Derby wins — on Astonish (1992), Astronomic (1993), and Elusive Pimpernel (1995) — and his stunning feat of six consecutive winners in a single day during the 1993-94 Mumbai season.
His career was cut short by a severe collarbone injury sustained in a fall at Pune in 2003, after which he retired from active riding. In retirement, he continued to nurture young talent and remained an indelible presence in the Indian turf community.
Today, the racing world mourns a champion, a warrior, and a legend whose legacy will forever echo in every finishing post.
