The £200,000 contest is expected to feature 22 runners, including Adaay of Scarlett, Arizona Raider, Bull Shark, Cilician, Confucius and Cut A Dash. Traditionally one of the most informative juvenile races of the season, the event will offer a valuable opportunity for emerging youngsters to establish themselves at the highest level.
Providing one of the day’s foremost speed examinations, the King Charles III Stakes (Group 1) will follow at 3:40pm over five furlongs. The £700,000 sprint championship is expected to attract a large field of 26 runners. Ain’t Nobody, American Affair, Big Mojo, Cover Up, Getreadytorumble, Jakajaro and Jm Jungle are among the notable entries for the prestigious dash, which will bring together many of the sport’s leading sprinters.
Representing a key championship contest for the Classic generation, the St James’s Palace Stakes (Group 1) will be run at 4:20pm over one mile for three-year-olds. Six runners are expected to line up for the £700,000 prize, including Bow Echo, Gstaad, Lord Britain, Power Blue, Puerto Rico and Talk of New York. The race will serve as a significant mid-season benchmark for the leading mile performers of the Classic crop.
Adding a significant staying challenge to the afternoon schedule, the Ascot Stakes will be held at 5:00pm over two miles, four furlongs and four yards. The Class 2 Heritage Handicap will carry prize money of £120,000 and is expected to feature 20 runners. Beylerbeyi, Bunting, Barnso, Reaching High, Lavender Hill Mob and Mordor are among those set to contest the marathon event, where stamina and endurance will be crucial factors.
Enhancing the quality of the later card, the Wolferton Stakes will take place at 5:35pm over one mile, two furlongs and six yards. The Listed contest will offer £125,000 in prize money and is expected to attract 16 runners. Adelaide River, Ancient Wisdom, Arabian Light, Dividend, Enfjaar and Galen feature among the leading names entered for the race, which will provide a notable opportunity for accomplished middle-distance performers.
Bringing the opening-day programme to its conclusion, the Copper Horse Stakes will be run at 6:10pm over one mile, six furlongs and 48 yards. The Class 2 handicap will offer £120,000 and is expected to draw 19 runners. Ascending, Stressfree, Paddy The Squire, Daiquiri Bay, Hallelujah U and Real Dream are among those scheduled to compete in the staying handicap that will close the curtain on the opening day.
