Under the golden Moroccan sun, a new star was born. Anastasia Nielsen, at just 19 years old, rode into history at the Longines Global Champions Tour (LGCT) Grand Prix in Rabat, capturing her first 5* 1.60m clear round and becoming the youngest ever LGCT Grand Prix winner aboard Action Man. For Nielsen, it was “a dream come true,” a milestone many riders spend a lifetime chasing.
The atmosphere at Rabat’s Grand Theatre was electric. Full grandstands, passionate fans, and the warmth of Moroccan hospitality provided the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable day of show jumping. Stage 15 of the 2025 LGCT season was not just a competition—it was a celebration of sport, culture, and the Kingdom of Morocco’s growing role on the international stage. With €634,000 in prize money on offer, tension and excitement were palpable.
In a jump-off that tested nerves and skill, Nielsen’s controlled and composed ride proved decisive. Seven riders returned for the final showdown, but it was Nielsen who produced the first double clear of the day in 50.25 seconds. Denmark’s Andreas Schou, aboard Napoli vh Nederassenthof, fought valiantly but had a rail down, finishing second. Ireland’s Denis Lynch and Cordial rounded out the podium with a single fault, showcasing a beautiful, disciplined round.
“This is what dreams are made of,” Nielsen said, tearfully accepting her trophy from His Royal Highness Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan. “The field was strong, so I had no expectations. Making history as the youngest winner ever means so much. The crowd here, the atmosphere, everything is incredible.”
The Grand Prix, designed by Uliano Vezzani, challenged even the most seasoned riders. Morocco’s own Ali Al Ahrach and Douglas Mall narrowly missed the podium, while established stars including Scott Brash, Edwina Tops-Alexander, Christian Ahlmann, and last year’s Rabat winner Eduardo Alvarez Aznar also fell short in the jump-off. Yet the day belonged to the 19-year-old prodigy who combined poise, strategy, and courage to secure a historic victory.
With this win, Nielsen not only etched her name into LGCT history but also secured a Golden Ticket to the Super Grand Prix at the GC Prague Playoffs, making her the youngest contender ever for one of show jumping’s most prestigious titles.
As Moroccan flags waved above the Grand Theatre, it was clear this was more than just a competition—it was a celebration of sport, culture, and connection. All eyes now turn to Riyadh, where the Championship Finals (30 October – 1 November) will decide the remaining podium positions, setting the stage for the ultimate LGCT showdown.
