Michael Behrens, the visionary behind MyRacehorse and co-owner of Seize the Grey—the horse that captured the 2024 Preakness Stakes—will be honored with a distinguished role during Preakness 150 Week at Pimlico Race Course. On Saturday, May 17, Behrens will step into the spotlight as the event’s Honorary Postmaster, a title steeped in history and tradition within the storied world of American horse racing.
The official recognition will take place a couple of days earlier, on Thursday, May 15, during the cherished Alibi Breakfast, a Pimlico tradition that dates back to the late 1930s. What started as an informal gathering of horsemen sharing stories over coffee has since evolved into a staple of Preakness Week, celebrating both the legacy and the community of the sport.
Joining the ranks of previous honorees—legends such as trainers D. Wayne Lukas, Nick Zito, and Bob Baffert, as well as jockey Edgar Prado and champions like Cigar and Knicks Go—Behrens finds himself in prestigious company. The accolade reflects not only a victory on the track but also a broader impact on the racing community.
Behrens founded MyRacehorse with a bold mission: to democratize racehorse ownership. Through his platform, everyday fans gained access to the elite experience of owning a racehorse, a model that has drawn over 100,000 enthusiasts worldwide into the fold. His background in marketing, including leadership roles at a top digital agency and as CMO at Casper, gave him the tools to transform the sport’s fan engagement model.
Reflecting on the honor, Behrens expressed deep appreciation for the recognition, particularly given the memorable triumph of Seize the Grey in the previous year’s Preakness. For him and the thousands of micro-shareholders who shared in that win, the journey has been more than just about racing—it’s been about community, access, and shared passion. His return to Pimlico, this time in an honorary role, serves as a meaningful continuation of that journey.
