QREC unveils strong field for Al Hamla Cup as India’s Trevor Patel prepares for key mounts

The Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) is all set to host the 45th Al Rayyan Race Meeting on May 1, 2025, at the iconic Al Rayyan Turf. Organized under the Racing Season Program 2024–25, the evening will feature five races, culminating in the Al Hamla Cup, a 1200-meter sprint for local thoroughbreds offering QAR 120,000 in prize money. Among the international riders participating, India’s leading jockey Trevor Patel will feature prominently across multiple races.

The day’s highlight, the Al Hamla Cup, is the fifth and final race on the card and will go off at 20:05. The Class 2 event, run over 1200 meters on dirt, features nine contenders. AL NASR AL WASHEEK will be partnered by Trevor Patel and is trained by Zuhair Mohsen. AL BURAQ will be ridden by Szczepan Mazur for trainer M.H.K Al Attiyah, while AL FAISAL sees Lukas Delozier in the saddle for Khalifa Hamed Nasser Al Sawai. MAYSARA is teamed with Pierre Charles Boudot and trained by Hamad Al-Jehani, who also saddles MADINAT BU THAILA, to be ridden by Saleh Faraj Al-Otaibi.

Other runners include MUTAMARRID (Alberto Sanna, trainer Jihad El Ahmad), MESSAOUDA (Jefferson Smith, trained by Ibrahim Khaled Elahmed), USHAYQER (Soufiane Saadi, trained by Mohamed Khaled Elahmed), and ROYALTY (Fayos Martin Borja, also trained by Ibrahim Khaled Elahmed).

The racing action begins at 17:45 with the Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate (1900m, QAR 50,000) featuring 14 declared runners and one reserve. AJS AL RUWAIS, trained by Abdulrahman Abdulwahed, will be ridden by Trevor Patel. AL JAROUDI (Jefferson Smith) is trained by Julian Colin Smart, while MUHEEB is ridden by apprentice Salman Fahad Al-Hajri and trained by Abdulla Dhabit Aldosari.

SHOUQ (Maikon De Souza) is prepared by Mohammed Balasim Al Jumaili, AJS BURKAAN (Lukas Delozier) is under Mohammed AlGhazali, and AL NATIBIS UP (Soufiane Saadi) is trained by Osama Al-Dafea. BILLYTHEKID POMPADOUR, paired with Pierre Charles Boudot, runs for Mohd Ahmed Mohd Hasan Al-Sulaiti, while CEDAR DE GHAZAL (Szczepan Mazur) represents Hamad Al-Jehani.

MOTAGHATRES (Alberto Sanna) is trained by Julian Colin Smart. NAMAR (Maxim Bozzio) is conditioned by Tareq Essa R A Abdulla, while SONGE AL MAURY (Youssef Lachhab) is under the care of Gassim AlGhazali. ALULA (Saleh Faraj Al-Otaibi) and ZOMOREDA AL SHAHANIA (Fayos Martin Borja) are both trained by Hamad Al-Jehani, while ZARRAH (Mohammed Hassan Ali Alabdulmalik) is from Abdulla Dhabit Aldosari’s yard. The reserve, LIGHTNING STRUCK, is trained by Owaida Salem Al Hajri.

The second race is the Purebred Arabian Handicap 55-75 (Class 5), scheduled at 18:20 over 1200 meters, with QAR 55,000 in prize money and 14 runners. AL EHDAASHARI (Saleh Faraj Al-Otaibi) and LATTAM AL SHAJAH (Szczepan Mazur) both run for trainer Mohammed Hassan Al Matwi. JAZZ DE NACRE (Abdulla Rashid Al-Hajri) is trained by Owaida Salem Al Hajri, while IKEF DE BOZOULS (Maxim Bozzio) runs for Mohammed AlGhazali.

DEAUVILLE (Alberto Sanna) is trained by Mohamed Khaled Elahmed, and JAAZMINA DU SOLEIL (Salman Fahad Al-Hajri) is with Mohd Ahmed Mohd Hasan Al-Sulaiti. PRINCE D’OSSAU (Mohammed Hassan Ali Alabdulmalik) is prepared by Ibrahim Saeed Al Malki. HM ZABRAJ (Fayos Martin Borja) represents Nasser Ghazali. ALOUQA, trained by Faisal Salem Al-Shahwani, will be ridden by Trevor Patel.

HDEEDAN (Jefferson Smith) is trained by Ahmed Kobeissi, while MAATNOOKH (Soufiane Saadi) and RB HOT MESS (Maikon De Souza) are both prepared by Bader Al Balushi. AL MADKHOOR (Rashid Ali Al-Marri) runs for Zuhair Mohsen. The reserve horse is RABEE’ AL SHAHANIA, trained by Dr. Fahad Salman F S Al-Hajri.

Race three is the Thoroughbred Handicap 0-75 (Qatari Riders Race, Class 5) at 18:55, run over 1900 meters with QAR 55,000 on offer. ALMUTAWAKEL (Meteb Ali Al-Marri) and COURT POET (Rashid Ali Al-Marri) are both trained by Nayef Batal Al-Otibi. Other notable runners include EMERALD ECLIPSE (Salman Fahad Al-Hajri), GULF LEGEND (Maxim Bozzio), ACTION HERO (Abdelakrime Bendia), LOADED GUN (Youssef Lachhab), and HE’S A DREAM (Abdulla Rashid Al-Mansoori).

POCKETT ROCKETT (Saleh Faraj Al-Otaibi), SEE ALL MATCH (Abdulla Rashid Al-Hajri), MOUNT DUKONO (Khadija Abdulwahed), IT’S A HOT ONE (Mohammed Hassan Ali Alabdulmalik), MARGESSON (Hamad Meshlesh Al-Khayarin), and MASHHOOR (Ghanim Ahmed Al-Jehani) complete the field. The reserves are PERFECT APPROACH (Nasser Ghazali) and SILVER SPIRIT (Deborah Amanda Clare Mountain).

At 19:30, the Purebred Arabian Handicap 80–100 (Class 2) offers QAR 90,000 over 1200 meters with ten runners. MAGUROOR (Pierre Charles Boudot) and TEXAS STORM CS (Jefferson Smith) run for Hamad Al-Jehani. ALSHANFARA (Jaures Marcialis) is trained by Hadi Al Ramzani, while MARED AL JASRA (Soufiane Saadi) is with Gassim AlGhazali.

TULAITILA (Alberto Sanna) comes from the Julian Colin Smart yard. SAQR (Mohammed Hassan Ali Alabdulmalik) is trained by Ahmed Kobeissi, while TAYMOOR AL SHAHANIA (Fayos Martin Borja) is with Mohamed Khaled Elahmed.
