Night In Vegas edged Arapaho Gold by a nose in the Qatar Racing British Champions Day Two-Year-Old Conditions Stakes at Ascot on Saturday, 17 October 2026, after Charlie Bishop delivered a decisive late challenge. Trained by Eve Johnson Houghton for Kennet Valley Syndicates, the colt secured his sixth victory in eight starts this season, while Satellite Of Love finished third in the 11-runner contest.

The race developed into a close contest after Arapaho Gold and Satellite Of Love advanced approaching the final two furlongs. Night In Vegas, who had been settled towards the rear of the field, faced a considerable challenge as the leading pair began to establish an advantage.

Bishop kept his mount travelling before asking him to accelerate inside the final furlong. Night In Vegas responded strongly, closing the gap with a sustained finishing effort and getting his head in front on the line. Arapaho Gold, the winner of the Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes, finished second, while Satellite Of Love, who had claimed the Redcar Two-Year-Old Trophy on his previous start, came home a head further back in third.

Night In Vegas Extends Impressive Winning Record

The British Champions Day success added another valuable result to Night In Vegas’s outstanding season. The colt had now won six of his eight starts, including three sales races at Newmarket and Doncaster, and had accumulated more than £720,000 in prize money.

Johnson Houghton admitted that she had feared defeat during the closing stages, believing the leaders had done enough to hold on before the result confirmed her colt’s narrow victory. She praised his determination and continued development, describing him as an exceptional horse to train.

The trainer also explained that concerns over the colt’s feet and the firm ground during the summer had affected his condition. She felt those difficulties had prevented him from showing his best form at that stage of the season, while his subsequent performances had demonstrated further improvement.

Johnson Houghton also believed the quality of the contest deserved recognition at a higher level. She indicated that Night In Vegas would enjoy a break after a demanding campaign, having delivered another important result for his connections.

Bishop credited the colt’s determination and the work of the training team. He explained that the front-runners had initially moved clear, leaving him concerned that he might run out of time. However, he remained confident that his mount would finish strongly enough to reach them.

The jockey described Night In Vegas as a determined competitor whose desire to win had repeatedly helped him overcome difficult situations. He also noted that the colt could occasionally become restless in the starting stalls and lose a little ground at the start, but his finishing ability continued to compensate for that weakness.

Kennet Valley Syndicates Celebrate a Memorable Result

Sam Hoskins, manager of Kennet Valley Syndicates, praised Johnson Houghton and Bishop for their contribution to the Night In Vegas victory and celebrated the achievement on behalf of the colt’s 16 owners.

Hoskins described the race as an exceptionally exciting experience and highlighted the opportunities provided by syndicate ownership. He emphasised that involvement in horse racing did not have to be restricted to major owners, describing the colt’s success as a memorable journey for everyone associated with him.

Arapaho Gold’s jockey, Connor Beasley, felt the runner-up had performed well despite narrowly missing the win. He explained that the colt had handled the race positively and suggested that he could develop further as a three-year-old after a winter break.

Beasley also referred to the challenge posed by his outside starting position and the need to allow the big-striding colt to settle into his rhythm. Despite the defeat, he remained optimistic about Arapaho Gold’s prospects in stronger contests next season.

Rossa Ryan was similarly encouraged by Satellite Of Love’s third-place finish. He felt the colt had progressed from his previous appearances at Doncaster and Redcar and believed continued improvement could make him a promising performer in his three-year-old campaign.

The result also gave Johnson Houghton and Bishop their first Qatar Racing British Champions Day victories in the Two-Year-Old Conditions Stakes.
