My Covenant extended an impressive run of form with a third consecutive victory, leading from start to finish in the inaugural $125,000 Sophomore Stakes at Woodbine on Saturday, October 10, 2026. Ridden by Pietro Moran and trained by Audrey Cheung, the three-year-old secured the six-and-a-half-furlong contest by one length after holding off a late challenge from Highwaytothemoon.

Breaking sharply from post position three, My Covenant took command of the five-horse field and set the pace through the opening quarter-mile in 22.71 seconds. Z Z’s applied pressure from the outside, while Meilani settled into third along the inside. Reb Five followed closely, with Queenston and Highwaytothemoon, winner of the Plate Trial Stakes, positioned towards the rear.

Moran kept My Covenant travelling comfortably around the turn before allowing the leader to increase the tempo. The pair maintained their advantage through the half-mile mark in 45.97 seconds, setting up a strong challenge for the closing stages.

Turning into the home straight, My Covenant negotiated the bend efficiently and opened a two-length lead. Highwaytothemoon then launched a determined run along the inside rail, reducing the margin inside the final furlong. However, My Covenant responded well and crossed the finish line in 1:16.03, securing another notable success for the Cheung stable.

Highwaytothemoon finished second, while Meilani held on for third ahead of Reb Five. Queenston completed the field ahead of the supplemented Z Z’s, who finished last.

My Covenant Extends Winning Run at Woodbine

The Sophomore Stakes victory marked My Covenant’s third consecutive success, with the gelding demonstrating his versatility across three different racing surfaces.

On August 21, My Covenant and Moran combined to win a seven-furlong turf allowance race at Woodbine. The partnership then travelled to Fort Erie, where the pair recorded a seven-length victory in the six-and-a-half-furlong Lake Erie Stakes on dirt. The Sophomore Stakes triumph on Woodbine’s main track continued that sequence.

Moran credited the horse’s quick start and comfortable position in front as important factors behind the latest victory. My Covenant’s ability to establish the lead early once again allowed the jockey to control the pace before responding to the late challenge.

Cheung had prepared the gelding with two workouts following the Lake Erie Stakes. One of those efforts came the previous Saturday, when My Covenant covered three furlongs in 36.40 seconds, the second-fastest time among 13 workers at the distance.

The trainer, who took over the horse’s preparation earlier in the summer, said the gelding had matured considerably during the season and had become a straightforward horse to work with. She also acknowledged her partner, Phil Hyde, who was recovering in hospital following the race.

Ontario-Bred My Covenant Improves Career Record

Bred in Ontario by Tucci Holdings, My Covenant is by Souper Speedy out of Dilly Dally Darby, a daughter of Old Forester. The gelding is owned by Mad Dog Racing Stables LLC and former National Hockey League player Mike Robitaille. The ownership group acquired the horse for $25,000 last autumn.

The Sophomore Stakes result improved My Covenant’s career record to four wins, two second-place finishes and three third-place finishes from 10 starts. His latest performance underlined the progress made this season and strengthened his reputation as a versatile young sprinter capable of producing consistent results on different surfaces.

For Cheung and Moran, the inaugural Sophomore Stakes provided another confirmation of the gelding’s development, as My Covenant continued his winning sequence with a controlled front-running performance at Woodbine.
