Mysore, January 29, 2025 – The Mysore Race Club witnessed an exhilarating day of racing as six fiercely contested events unfolded under clear skies. Racing enthusiasts and bettors thronged the venue, eager to witness thrilling finishes and decisive victories. The highlight of the day was the Bababudan Giri Plate, which carried the highest prize purse of Rs. 10,00,000, making it the most lucrative race of the event.
The Bababudan Giri Plate, a 1,100-meter sprint exclusively for three-year-old horses, showcased the rising stars of the racing circuit. In a gripping finish, SELMA, trained by J S Pillay and ridden by jockey Anil Bandal, surged ahead in the final stretch to claim victory and a handsome winner’s purse of Rs.5,00,000. PARK WEST and LAKE LOUISE followed closely, securing second and third places, earning Rs. 2,50,000 and Rs. 1,25,000, respectively. SELMA’s victory highlighted its exceptional speed and the strategic mastery of jockey Anil Bandal.
Among the other races, the Andolana Trophy, the second-richest race of the day with a total purse of Rs. 7,00,000, was another crowd favorite. This 1,400-meter event, reserved for Class 2 horses rated 60 and above, witnessed an impressive victory by D GOLD STAR, who stormed past the finish line to claim Rs. 3,50,000 in prize money. EXUBERANCE, showing strong form, secured second place with Rs. 1,75,000, while CONTRIBUTOR took third, earning Rs. 87,505. This race, known for attracting seasoned competitors, lived up to its reputation as one of Mysore’s most fiercely contested battles.
Another notable event was the Cochin Plate, offering a total prize purse of Rs. 5,75,000. This 1,600-meter race for Class 3 horses rated 40 to 65 saw NATURAL GOLD deliver a powerful finish to clinch the winner’s prize of Rs. 2,87,500. NATURAL TORNADO followed closely, securing Rs. 1,43,750, while SIR CALCULUS finished third with Rs. 71,875. The race showcased a strong field, with NATURAL GOLD proving its mettle over the mile-long distance.
The Hampi Plate, a grueling 2,000-meter endurance test for Class 4 horses rated 20 to 45, witnessed SAPIENT showcase remarkable stamina and pacing to secure first place with Rs. 2,25,000. AURELE finished second, earning Rs. 1,12,500, while BROCSTON took third place with Rs. 56,250. This long-distance challenge put the competitors’ endurance and jockeys’ strategic skills to the test.
In the Vesuvius Plate, a 1,200-meter sprint for older horses rated 00 to 25, FELICITA displayed an electric turn of foot to clinch victory and the winning purse of Rs. 1,87,505. CZAREVITCH followed closely to take second place with Rs. 93,750, while the third-place finisher received Rs. 46,875.
The Mangalore Plate, another 1,100-meter dash, saw INEFFABLE take the top spot, earning Rs. 2,25,000. ELEVADO ran a strong race to finish second, securing Rs. 1,12,500, while D GOLDEN CUP claimed third place with Rs. 56,250.
