Newmarket Racecourse will stage a seven-race Flat card on turf on Saturday, October 3. The programme will run from 12:25pm to 3:50pm and will feature a strong mix of handicap, maiden and Group-level contests. The races will cover distances from 7f to 1m4f, with prize money ranging from £15,000 to £375,000. The Sun Chariot Stakes, a Group 1 contest over one mile, will carry the highest prize of the afternoon at £375,000.

The opening race at 12:25pm will be the British EBF Premier Fillies’ Handicap Stakes, a Class 2 contest over 1m2f. Open to horses aged three and above, the race will carry £60,000 in prize money and will be contested by runners rated from 0-105. It will provide an early test over the longer distance.

At 1:00pm, the £200,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes will be held over 7f for two-year-olds. The Class 2 contest will carry £308,855 in prize money and will form one of the major races on the card for juveniles. The seven-furlong distance should provide a useful test of speed and finishing strength.

The feature race of the afternoon will follow at 1:35pm with the Sun Chariot Stakes. This Class 1 Group 1 race will be run over one mile for horses aged three and above and will offer £375,000 in prize money. As the highest-value race on the card, it will bring together a strong field for one of Newmarket’s major one-mile contests.

At 2:10pm, the HKJC World Pool Handicap Stakes will be staged over 1m4f. The Class 2 race for three-year-olds and older horses will carry £50,000 and will be open to runners rated from 0-105. The extended distance will place emphasis on stamina as the field tackles a longer trip than most of the earlier races.

The fifth race at 2:45pm will be the Responsibly Maiden Stakes, a Class 2 contest over 7f for two-year-olds. The race will carry £15,000 in prize money and will provide another opportunity for young horses to gain experience over the Newmarket turf. With the runners still at an early stage of their careers, the seven-furlong distance will offer a balanced test of pace and stamina.

At 3:15pm, the EBF Maiden Stakes will take place over one mile. This Class 3 contest will be open to two-year-olds and will carry £15,000 in prize money. The longer distance will give the juveniles an opportunity to demonstrate their ability to settle and finish strongly over a mile.

The final race at 3:50pm will be the Newmarket Fillies’ Handicap Stakes, a Class 3 contest over 7f. Open to three-year-olds and older fillies and mares, the race will carry £25,000 and will feature runners rated from 71-90. The seven-furlong finale will bring the afternoon’s racing to a close.

The Newmarket card on October 3 will therefore feature seven races across a range of distances, with the £375,000 Sun Chariot Stakes standing out as the headline Group 1 event. The programme will also include valuable two-year-old contests, handicaps and maiden races, providing a varied afternoon of Flat racing on the turf.
