Listowel Racing Wednesday will feature a seven-race programme at Listowel Racecourse on 23 September 2026, with the afternoon card scheduled to begin at 1:55pm and run through to 5:22pm. The meeting will include four hurdle contests, two steeplechases and a concluding flat race, with the €200,000 Guinness Kerry National Handicap Steeplechase providing the principal event at 4:15pm.

The opening race will be the McSweeney Brothers Maiden Hurdle over two miles at 1:55pm. The contest will provide the first opportunity of the afternoon for the two-mile hurdlers, before the Seamus Mulvaney Bookmaker Novice Hurdle will follow at 2:30pm over the same distance.

The Brandon Hotel Handicap Hurdle will form the third race at 3:05pm and will be contested over two miles, two furlongs and 135 yards. The fourth race will then increase the distance further, with the Devon Inn Dan Sheehan Memorial Handicap Hurdle scheduled for 3:40pm over three miles.

Listowel Racing Wednesday will centre on Guinness Kerry National

The feature event of the afternoon will be the Guinness Kerry National Handicap Steeplechase, which will be run at 4:15pm over two miles, seven furlongs and 180 yards. The Grade 3 contest will carry €200,000 in prize money and will provide the longest and most valuable test on the seven-race programme.

The staying chase will form the main focus of the meeting and will bring together an experienced field for a demanding test over fences. Its position as the fifth race will also give the card a clear progression from the earlier hurdle contests into the principal steeplechase.

Following the Kerry National, the Ballygarry Estate Hotel & Spa Mares Novice Steeplechase will take place at 4:47pm. The race will be run over two miles and three furlongs and will provide a shorter chasing test for mares.

The meeting will conclude at 5:22pm with the Paul Moynihan (Ex VFI President) Memorial Flat Race. The closing contest will cover two miles and four furlongs, making it another test of stamina and bringing the seven-race programme to an end.

The overall card will offer a mixture of race types and distances, beginning with the two-mile maiden hurdle and moving through novice and handicap hurdles before the longer staying hurdle and steeplechase contests. The Guinness Kerry National will stand apart as the Grade 3 feature, while the final flat race will provide a different format to close the afternoon.

With racing spread across more than three hours, the Wednesday programme will provide a substantial afternoon of action at Listowel, with the €200,000 Guinness Kerry National occupying the key position on the card.
