Satono Glow produced a notable performance at Flemington on Saturday, September 12, 2026, when she secured the A$200,000 Group 3 Cap d’Antibes Stakes over 1100 metres. The victory marked another important step in the three-year-old filly’s developing career and highlighted the quality emerging from the Karaka sales.
Bred by Windsor Park Stud and sired by Satono Aladdin, Satono Glow was purchased for $260,000 by O’Shea Charlton Racing and James Bester Bloodstock after being offered as a Karaka 2025 Book 1 graduate. Her latest success took her record to three wins from four starts, with her earnings increasing to A$315,200.
The Cap d’Antibes Stakes 2026 success came after her connections decided to give her additional time to develop. Satono Glow had initially been considered for the Group 2 Furious Stakes over 1200 metres, but trainer O’Shea Charlton and his team chose a more patient approach.
That decision paid dividends at Flemington, where the filly showed the improvement expected from her preparation and handled the straight course with authority.
Satono Glow Delivers at Flemington
O’Shea Charlton had been encouraged by Satono Glow’s work during the week, particularly her Tuesday gallop. Her previous experience on the straight course also provided confidence heading into the Group 3 contest.
The filly benefited from her draw and was able to settle behind the favourite during the early stages. She travelled comfortably before producing a strong finishing effort when the race entered its decisive phase.
The Cap d’Antibes Stakes 2026 victory also reflected the filly’s physical development. Jockey Melham was pleased with the performance and noted the progress she had made since her two-year-old season.
Satono Glow had been considered physically immature at two, but she had developed into a stronger and more furnished filly. Her improved condition was evident at Flemington, where she showed both composure and finishing ability.
Further improvement was expected as she gained fitness and continued to strengthen through her campaign.
The victory could now lead to an ambitious spring target. The Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes over 1200 metres at Flemington on October 31 has emerged as a possible next assignment, giving Satono Glow an opportunity to measure herself against leading three-year-old sprinters.
Karaka Graduates Make Their Mark
Satono Glow was not the only Karaka graduate to make an impression over the weekend.
Pondalowie, a six-year-old daughter of Deep Field, captured the A$300,000 Group 2 Asahi Super Dry Let’s Elope Stakes over 1400 metres at Flemington. The mare had previously recorded seven top-six finishes at black-type level before finally adding a Group 2 victory to her record.
Pondalowie was purchased for $150,000 by expatriate New Zealand trainers Emma-Lee and David Browne from Prima Park’s Book 1 draft at Karaka in 2022. Her latest success took her career record to four wins and three placings from 22 starts, with earnings reaching A$394,275.
At Riccarton, Sweetest Thing added another stakes success when she won the $80,000 Listed NZB Canterbury Belle Stakes over 1200 metres.
The Hello Youmzain filly was bred by the Hawkins family’s Llanhennock Trust and offered through Wentwood Grange in Karaka 2025 Book 1. She was purchased for $80,000 by Roydon Bergerson and Chris Rutten Bloodstock.
Sweetest Thing had recorded one win and three placings from five starts before the Canterbury Belle Stakes. Her victory earned seven points in the NZB Southern Filly Series, putting her at the top of the standings after the opening leg. Platinum La Danse had four points, while Sword Of Stars had two.
The second leg of the series will be the $90,000 Listed NZB Airfreight Stakes over 1400 metres at Wingatui on Boxing Day.
For Satono Glow, attention will now turn towards the next stage of her campaign. Her Flemington success strengthened her record and provided further evidence of her ability to compete at stakes level.
The Cap d’Antibes Stakes 2026 victory also gave her connections an encouraging platform for the remainder of the spring, with a potential Group 1 assignment offering an opportunity to take her progression to another level.
Satono Aladdin will also have a significant presence at the upcoming New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale, with 12 of his progeny catalogued for the November 18 and 19 sale at Karaka.
The weekend therefore provided a strong advertisement for the depth of talent emerging through the Karaka sales, with Satono Glow, Pondalowie and Sweetest Thing each adding important stakes victories to their records.
