A strong run of form for Stephen Marsh and Dylan Johnson continued at Wanganui on Saturday, with Perfect Chaos adding valuable black type to a promising early career in the Listed HS Dyke Wanganui Guineas over 1200 metres.
Perfect Chaos is another successful graduate of the Karaka sales for the Marsh-Johnson partnership. Bred by The Oaks Stud, the Hello Youmzain filly was offered in Book 1 at Karaka 2025 and was secured for $50,000 by Stephen Marsh Racing and Dylan Johnson Bloodstock.
The three-year-old has now raced five times, recording one black-type victory and four placings for $62,680 in stakes. Her latest success further underlined the strength of the young filly’s form and the judgement behind her purchase.
Perfect Chaos is the latest in a growing line of successful fillies sourced through NZB Sales by Marsh and Johnson.
The partnership has previously enjoyed notable results with last season’s standout filly Well Written, along with stakes winners Hitabell, Glamour Tycoon and Bourbon Empress. Perfect Chaos now joins that group after producing her most significant performance to date.
Her pedigree also offers plenty of encouragement. By Hello Youmzain, whose progeny have continued to make an impression on the New Zealand racing scene, Perfect Chaos has also shown that her ability extends beyond what her purchase price might have suggested.
The Wanganui Guineas was particularly significant because it delivered black type early in her three-year-old campaign, strengthening both her racing record and future broodmare credentials.
Perfect Chaos also extended a notable sequence for Hello Youmzain at Wanganui.
The Wanganui Guineas is becoming a productive race for fillies by the stallion, with Perfect Chaos following Platinum Diamond, another Hello Youmzain filly purchased at Karaka, who captured last year’s renewal.
Perfect Chaos was not the only Karaka graduate to make an impression on Saturday.
Runner-up O’Baby was purchased for $80,000 from Book 1 of Karaka 2025, while Singletary, who completed the first three, was a $125,000 purchase from Book 2 of the same sale.
The result therefore produced an NZB-sourced trifecta, providing another strong advertisement for the quality of bloodstock offered through the Karaka sales.
For Marsh and Johnson, however, the focus will be firmly on Perfect Chaos and what the filly can build from her first black-type success. With five starts already yielding four placings alongside her Wanganui Guineas victory, there is plenty of scope for the three-year-old to add further substance to her record.
Perfect Chaos Wanganui Guineas was the latest chapter in a successful sales-to-racetrack story for the Marsh-Johnson team, with the filly converting her early promise into a valuable stakes victory.
