Ballet’s Legacy became the standout purchase of Wednesday’s Inglis Digital August (Early) Online Sale, with the blueblood mare bringing $540,000 after attracting strong interest from buyers seeking proven Australian bloodlines.
Offered by Newgate Farm, Ballet’s Legacy carries an exceptional pedigree. The I Am Invincible mare is a three-quarter sister to Group 1 winner and leading first-season sire Home Affairs, while also being a half sister to dual Group 1 winner and successful sire Russian Revolution.

New Zealand-based agent Bruce Perry secured Ballet’s Legacy on behalf of a client, with the mare now set for the next stage of her breeding career.
The result reflected the depth of her family as much as her physical appeal. Her pedigree combines some of the most sought-after names in contemporary Australian breeding, while her close connections to established Group 1 performers give her considerable appeal as a broodmare prospect.
Newgate Farm’s Henry Field was pleased with the outcome, particularly given the farm’s longstanding relationship with Perry. The familiarity between the two parties allowed the quality of the mare to be well understood before the sale, an important factor when dealing with a mare from such a prominent family.
Perry said Ballet’s Legacy represented the sort of broodmare that rarely becomes available at this level and confirmed that a decision on her first mating will be made in the coming weeks.
The mare is expected to visit a stallion during the upcoming Australian breeding season, although the final choice will be determined by her new connections.
The $540,000 result placed Ballet’s Legacy comfortably at the top of the Inglis Digital August Early Sale, with a significant gap to the next highest-priced lot.
Second on the list was Jest Excel, a daughter of Exceed And Excel and the dam of Group 3-winning two-year-old Shiki. Offered as part of the Cornerstone Stud dispersal, Jest Excel was purchased by Suman Hedge Bloodstock for $150,000.
The result was another positive outcome for Cornerstone Stud, whose dispersal lots generated a combined $761,700 during the session.
Jest Excel has already demonstrated her value as a broodmare through Shiki, and her new connections are expected to continue that breeding programme. The mare is likely to visit Zoustar during the new season, adding another commercially attractive element to her future.
Cornerstone’s offering also included Tinker McPhee, which changed hands for $135,000 after being offered through the dispersal.
A separate section of the catalogue featured 74 shares offered by Bennett Racing, with the group generating a combined $615,000.
The most notable transactions involved five 5 per cent shares in recent Group 1 winner Fireball Miss. Those shares realised a combined $385,000, placing them among the session’s most significant individual results.
The sale gave existing interests in Fireball Miss an opportunity to increase their involvement, while also bringing new participants into ownership of a recent top-level performer.
The strong response underlined the continued interest in fractional ownership of high-quality racehorses, particularly when the horse involved has already established a record at the highest level.
The overall Inglis Digital August Early Sale finished with a gross of $4,044,900, reflecting solid demand across a catalogue that included broodmares, breeding prospects, racing interests and younger horses.
Among the other notable results was three-year-old colt Loud And Clear, who sold for $115,000 to Dynamic Syndications.
The session’s leading results were headed by Ballet’s Legacy at $540,000, followed by Jest Excel at $150,000, Tinker McPhee at $135,000 and Loud And Clear at $115,000. The Fireball Miss shares added considerable depth to the day’s figures.
For Ballet’s Legacy, the sale marks the beginning of a new chapter. With close family ties to Home Affairs and Russian Revolution, the mare enters broodmare duties carrying a pedigree that has already produced Group 1 performers and sires.
The Inglis Digital August Early Sale also highlighted the continued strength of demand for well-related mares, particularly those connected to active and successful families.
Entries are now open for the August Late Sale, scheduled to run from August 21 to August 26. Entries for that auction will close at midnight on Wednesday, August 19.
