After repeatedly proving his consistency in graded company, veteran gelding Dancin in Da’nile returns to Woodbine on Saturday with another opportunity to secure the biggest victory of his career in the $125,000 Niagara Stakes. The 1 3/8-mile inner turf feature has attracted a quality field, with the seven-year-old aiming to go one better after finishing runner-up in last year’s renewal.

Woodbine Niagara Stakes 2026

Dancin in Da’nile heads into this year’s Woodbine Niagara Stakes 2026 in encouraging form, having finished in the top three in five of his last six starts. The son of Pioneerof the Nile has long established himself as a dependable performer over staying distances, and the return to Woodbine’s inner turf over his preferred trip appears well suited to his strengths.

Prepared by Gail Cox, who also shares ownership of the gelding alongside Ralph Murray, John Menary and Michael Balaz, Dancin in Da’nile has built a solid career record of four wins, four seconds and five thirds from 33 outings, earning more than $444,000 in prize money. Bred by Sam-Son Farm, he also traces directly to legendary Canadian champion Dance Smartly, adding further depth to an already distinguished pedigree.

His career began with victory as a two-year-old in August 2021 before notable performances followed, including second in the Coronation Futurity Stakes and a respectable effort in the Queen’s Plate. More recently, he has continued to perform with credit against stronger opposition, finishing third in the Singspiel Stakes (G3T) in 2025 and producing an eye-catching runner-up finish in the Louisville Stakes (G3T) at Churchill Downs.

His latest appearance came on June 13 in the Chorleywood Stakes at Churchill Downs, where he finished third behind multiple graded stakes winner Burnham Square over the same 1 3/8-mile distance. That performance further reinforced his effectiveness over extended turf trips.

Distance has consistently been one of Dancin in Da’nile’s greatest assets. His most recent victory came over Saturday’s exact trip when he captured an allowance optional claimer on Woodbine’s inner turf in November 2024. With proven stamina and familiarity with the course, he enters the Niagara Stakes as one of the principal contenders.

Trainer Gail Cox has kept the gelding ticking over with two recent workouts at Woodbine. He covered five furlongs in 1:00.40 on the turf training track on July 26 before completing an easy four-furlong maintenance drill in 49.80 seconds on the main track on August 2 after wet weather ruled out another turf exercise.

Among his chief rivals is Swift Delivery, trained by dual Hall of Fame conditioner Mark Casse. The five-year-old gelding has recorded four victories from 19 starts and arrives after finishing third in the Dominion Day Stakes on June 27.

Swift Delivery enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in 2025 when landing the Seagram Cup (G3), confirming his ability at stakes level. The son of Not This Time has regularly competed in graded races and possesses the stamina expected to suit Saturday’s longer turf assignment.

His profile also attracted widespread attention in 2024 after NFL star Travis Kelce acquired an ownership interest alongside Team Valor International, Gary Barber, Steven Rocco and Bruce Zoldan, bringing additional public attention to the accomplished campaigner.

Saturday’s renewal promises another intriguing contest as experienced turf performers meet over one of Woodbine’s testing staying distances. For Dancin in Da’nile, it represents another opportunity to finally convert a string of admirable graded performances into a long-awaited stakes victory in the Woodbine Niagara Stakes 2026.
