Roscommon Racecourse will stage an attractive seven-race National Hunt meeting on Tuesday, 4 August, featuring a varied evening programme of maiden hurdles, handicap hurdles, steeplechases and a concluding flat race. The fixture will begin at 17:25 and continue through to 20:30, with prize money ranging from €10,000 to €13,000 across the card. Several respected Irish trainers and experienced riders will be represented throughout the meeting, ensuring a competitive and well-balanced programme at the County Roscommon venue.
The meeting will get underway with THE CURRAGH TO CURRAGH CHARITY CYCLE ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 29TH MAIDEN HURDLE at 17:25. The opening contest will be run over 2m 4f 46yds for €12,000, with Boston Common set to represent Seamus Neville under J.J. Slevin. Casper Charlie, trained by Una Corcoran and ridden by P.T. Enright, will also feature, while Coral Reid from the E. McNamara stable will complete the leading contenders. The opening maiden hurdle will provide several lightly raced performers with an opportunity to make an early impression and begin the meeting on a competitive note.
The action will continue with THE JAMES LOHAN ENGINEERING EXCELLENCE MAIDEN HURDLE at 18:00. Worth €12,000 and contested over 1m 7f 110yds, the race will see W.P. Mullins-trained Clay Pigeons among the notable runners. Minella Hollow for John J. Nallen and Earthwatch from the Denis Gerard Hogan yard will also be expected to make their presence felt. With several promising hurdlers lining up, the contest will add further quality to the early stages of the evening programme.
The staying hurdlers will then take centre stage in THE DNG IVAN CONNAUGHTON HANDICAP HURDLE at 18:30. The €12,000 contest over 2m 7f 210yds will provide a thorough stamina examination, with Born Bright and Mephisto set to clash in the extended-distance handicap. The longer trip is expected to place added emphasis on stamina and consistency, making this one of the more testing hurdle races on the card.
Attention will then switch to chasing in THE J.F. HANLEY GROUNDSCARE BEGINNERS STEEPLECHASE, scheduled for 19:00. The beginners’ event will be run over 2m 142yds for €13,000, with Hashtag Pretender from the Barry Connell stable and Impero, trained by Cian Collins, expected to headline the field. The competitive handicap action will continue in THE KEPAK HANDICAP STEEPLECHASE at 19:30. The €10,000 contest will cover 2m 5f 141yds, where Full Noise and Gaoithe Glory will be among the runners looking to secure success in the evening chase. Stamina will become the key factor in THE CAMPBELL’S BAR BALLINLOUGH HANDICAP STEEPLECHASE at 20:00. Run over 3m 1f 14yds for €10,000, the contest will feature Midnight Moonshine, Decimation and Kilkee Bay in what will be the longest race on the programme. The extended distance will reward strong staying ability and accurate jumping throughout the closing stages of the race.
The meeting will conclude with THE BRIAN KEENAN FLAT RACE at 20:30. The closing bumper will be contested over 1m 7f 110yds with prize money of €11,000, where Charles Kickham and Conor’salwaysright will be among the expected participants. The concluding flat race will bring the evening to a close and offer another opportunity for emerging performers to gain valuable experience.
