Goodwood Racecourse witnessed a dramatic finish as Melbourne Cup runner-up Goodie Two Shoes produced a determined performance to land the Group 2 Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes in a tightly fought contest. The Joseph O’Brien-trained filly showed great courage over the extended distance, finding enough in the closing stages to secure victory in a race decided by the narrowest of margins.

Returning to the scene of a strong effort in last year’s renewal, when she finished third over the same 14-furlong trip, Goodie Two Shoes travelled smoothly behind early leader Santorini Star before being switched out for a late challenge. As the field entered the final stages, Waardah joined the battle on the outside, setting up a three-way finish that kept spectators on edge.
The leading trio crossed the final furlong almost together, with Goodie Two Shoes showing tremendous determination to get her head in front where it mattered. Santorini Star produced another brave effort but was denied by a nose, while Waardah, last year’s winner of the race, was only a head behind in third.
The victory marked another important step in the campaign of Goodie Two Shoes, who has continued to progress since returning to action this season. Her ability to handle a quicker surface and stay strongly at the distance once again proved valuable as she secured one of the biggest wins of her career.
