Goodwood Racecourse will present one of the standout fixtures of the British flat racing season on Wednesday, 29 July, when THE VISIT QATAR SUSSEX STAKES (Class 1) (Group 1) will take centre stage. The feature contest will be run at 4:10 PM over 1 mile and 12 yards and will offer a remarkable £1,500,000 prize fund. Open to horses aged three years and older, the race will feature 12 runners, bringing together established Group performers, progressive contenders and an accomplished line-up of leading jockeys for one of the meeting’s premier events.

The THE VISIT QATAR SUSSEX STAKES (Class 1) (Group 1) will headline Wednesday’s programme and will once again underline Goodwood’s reputation for staging world-class flat racing. Contested over 1m 12y, the historic race will test both speed and stamina while providing competitors with an opportunity to claim one of the sport’s most prestigious mile honours.

A total prize fund of £1,500,000 will be on offer, ensuring the contest remains among the richest and most significant races of the British racing calendar. Its Group 1 status will attract an exceptional standard of competition, with every runner aiming to deliver a performance worthy of the occasion.

The expected field will include Docklands (James Doyle), Lake Forest (Cieren Fallon), Never So Brave (P. J. McDonald), Opera Ballo (William Buick), Qirat (Colin Keane), Seagulls Eleven (Oisin Murphy), Ten Bob Tony (Kieran Shoemark), Bow Echo (Billy Loughnane), Dorset (W. M. Lordan), Gstaad (Ryan Moore), Puerto Rico (C. Soumillon) and Zavateri (Charles Bishop).

The quality of the entries will ensure a fascinating renewal of the Sussex Stakes. Proven performers at Pattern level will line up alongside progressive horses seeking to enhance their credentials against elite opposition, creating a field with strength throughout.

The jockeys booked for the contest will add further depth to the occasion. Riders including Ryan Moore, William Buick, Oisin Murphy, James Doyle, Colin Keane and Christophe Soumillon will bring extensive top-level experience, while the remaining jockeys will be equally determined to guide their mounts to success in one of the summer’s most valuable races.

Goodwood’s undulating course has traditionally rewarded horses that travel comfortably before producing a well-timed finishing effort. Tactical awareness, accurate positioning and the ability to handle the track’s unique characteristics will all play an important role in shaping the outcome of Wednesday’s feature contest.

With a high-calibre field assembled and substantial prize money at stake, the Sussex Stakes will provide a fitting centrepiece to Goodwood’s Wednesday programme. The contest will also serve as an important measure of current form for several leading performers as the British flat racing season continues through the summer.
