Amazonica Secures British EBF Novice Stakes Victory at Leicester on 14 July

A competitive evening unfolded at Leicester Racecourse on Tuesday, 14 July, as a seven-race programme tested runners across a wide variety of classes. Seven different horses emerged victorious during the fixture, while jockeys Rob Hornby and David Probert each completed riding doubles. The card featured a balanced mix of juvenile, sprint, middle-distance and staying contests, with several trainers enjoying success throughout the evening.

Setting the evening in motion, the Nursery Handicap Stakes (Class 6) was claimed by Emerald Bay, who produced a determined performance under Darragh Keenan for trainer George Scott. Racing for owners Mr J Mitchell & Ballylinch Stud, the winner stopped the clock in 1:25.28. Hamdani Mokhater finished second, while Tiger In The Tree completed the top three.

The feature contest of the evening then took centre stage in the British EBF Novice Stakes (Class 3) (GBB/GBBPLUS Race), where Amazonica justified expectations with an impressive display. David Probert guided by Owen Burrows-trained runner to victory for owners Tony Chapman & Noel Fehily Racing, defeating Cloud Forest by 1¼ lengths, while Kudos Too finished third.

Attention then shifted to the staying division in the Handicap Stakes (Class 6), where Ottoman stayed on strongly under Saffie Osborne for trainers Oliver Greenall & Josh Guerriero. Owned by Mr Phil Evans, the winner completed the contest in 2:31.82. Joanna Hiffernan finished second, with Trojan Truth taking third.

The pace quickened in the next event as the Handicap Stakes (Class 6) went to Dottie Diamond, who delivered a smart performance under Rob Hornby for trainer William Stone. Carrying the colours of owner Miss Caroline Scott, the winner recorded 1:00.79. Dreambird Dolly finished second, while The Bear of Saints claimed third.

The following handicap provided Rob Hornby with his second success of the evening as Gal scored for trainer Mark Loughnane. Representing owner Mr Ben Parish, the winner stopped the clock in 1:25.71. Musical Soldier finished second ahead of Arvana Belle in third.

The fillies then stepped into the spotlight in the Fillies’ Handicap Stakes (Class 5), where Melody de Vega handed David Probert his riding double. Trained by Dr Richard Newland & Jamie Insole for owners Michael P Tudor & Mr J. P. M. O’Connor, the filly completed the contest in 2:09.23. Fille Imbassee finished second, while Hot Silk took third.

Bringing the meeting to its conclusion, the Classified Stakes (Class 6) went to Manhattan Chute. Sean Levey partnered the Jim & Suzi Best-trained runner to victory for owners J May, R L Field, W Trenchard and J Pook, recording 1:12.43. Bullington Bry finished second, while Rogue Rebellion completed the placings.

The Leicester fixture produced seven individual winners and showcased competitive racing across every division. Rob Hornby and David Probert each celebrated riding doubles, while Amazonica’s polished success in the British EBF Novice Stakes stood out as one of the evening’s headline performances. Victories were also shared among several trainers, reflecting the depth and competitiveness of the seven-race programme.
