The card opens with three obstacle races before switching to three flat contests, providing a balanced schedule that highlights the versatility of the horses and riders competing at one of France’s historic regional racecourses.

The headline events of the meeting are the opening three obstacle races, each carrying a prize fund of €16,000, making them the highest-value contests on the programme.

The day begins at 9:45 AM with the Prix Daniel Charon – Chall. de l’Obst. Equinaxy, a handicap hurdle over 3,900 metres for horses aged five years and older. Although only three runners have been declared, the race is expected to be a tactical contest where accurate jumping and stamina will be crucial throughout the demanding journey.

Feature Race: Prix Claude Dugast

The spotlight then turns to the Prix Claude Dugast at 10:20 AM, one of the joint highest-prize races of the day with a purse of €16,000. Run as a 4,500-metre cross-country race for horses aged five years and older, it is also the longest contest on the Pompadour programme and is expected to provide one of the meeting’s toughest examinations of endurance, jumping ability and race management.

Six experienced runners have been declared for the feature event. Real des Rocs, an eight-year-old carrying 75kg, will be partnered by Baptiste Fouchet for trainer Mme Al. Guildoux. Veteran Festin Collonges, aged eleven, carries 72kg under Quentin Defontaine for trainer F. Lagarde.

Thiago des Dunes, a twelve-year-old trained by P. Quinton, is set to race with Thomas Figueira aboard carrying 67kg, while Gippsy de Chenour AA, a ten-year-old mare trained by Pat. Charon, will carry 66kg with Augustin Gleyroux in the saddle.

The field is completed by Joy de Balme, a seven-year-old partnered by Praphan Phokaew for trainer Mme E. Bazire, carrying 65kg, and All Gold, a ten-year-old mare trained by H. Froidefond, who will carry 62kg under Mme Gwladys Fradelin.

With its extended distance and unique cross-country course, the Prix Claude Dugast is expected to reward horses capable of maintaining a consistent rhythm while negotiating the demanding obstacles, making it one of the day’s standout attractions.

At 10:55 AM, the Prix Georges Peuch concludes the obstacle section of the programme. The 3,900-metre Class 4 hurdle for horses aged four years and older has attracted eight runners, the largest field of the meeting. The contest is expected to produce a competitive finish as experienced jumpers meet improving rivals over a demanding distance.

The meeting then switches to flat racing at 11:30 AM with the Prix Barons de Nexon, a claiming race over 2,400 metres for horses aged four years and older. Seven runners are scheduled to contest this Class 4 event, where staying power and race positioning are expected to be important.

At 12:05 PM, the Prix Docteur Mouries takes centre stage over 2,200 metres. Six runners have been entered for this Class 4 contest, which offers another opportunity for middle-distance performers to demonstrate their consistency and finishing strength.

The programme concludes at 12:40 PM with the Prix Jean-Claude Teneze, a 1,600-metre Class 4 flat race featuring six runners. As the shortest race on the card, it is expected to place greater emphasis on pace, tactical positioning and acceleration in the closing stages.

Pompadour continues to play an important role in French regional racing, regularly hosting meetings that combine obstacle and flat racing while providing valuable opportunities for horses, trainers and jockeys throughout the season. The July 12 fixture reflects that tradition with a varied programme that caters to different racing styles and abilities.

With three €16,000 obstacle races leading the schedule—highlighted by the demanding Prix Claude Dugast cross-country event—and three competitive flat contests completing the afternoon, spectators can look forward to an enjoyable day of racing at Pompadour under the organisation of France Galop.
