The picture for Saturday’s feature race at the Debenhams July Festival became clearer on Monday with 13 horses standing their ground at the five-day confirmation stage for the £800,000 Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai July Cup at Newmarket. The Group 1 sprint, one of the highlights of the British Flat season, has attracted a strong international field featuring runners from Britain, Ireland and Japan.

The prestigious six-furlong contest, scheduled for 4:35pm on Saturday, 11 July, is set to feature a fascinating blend of established Group performers, progressive three-year-olds and overseas challengers. With the going currently described as good to firm, connections will now turn their attention to final declarations later in the week.
Among the leading contenders is Satono Reve, the accomplished Japanese sprinter trained by Noriyuki Hori, who adds an international dimension to the field. Ireland is represented by three runners from Aidan O’Brien, including Comanche Brave, Mission Central and Big Mojo, while leading British stables are also well represented.
Dual entries from William Haggas include Almeraq and the progressive three-year-old Division, while Andrew Balding has confirmed both Double Rush and the experienced mare Flora of Bermuda. Venetian Sun, receiving a weight allowance as a three-year-old filly, also adds intrigue to the championship sprint.
Away from the feature, the remainder of Saturday’s card promises quality throughout the afternoon.
The opening Rossdales British EBF Maiden Stakes has attracted 18 juvenile entries, with powerful teams from Charlie Appleby, Aidan O’Brien, Richard Hannon and Andrew Balding all represented. Several well-bred newcomers are expected to make their racecourse debuts in what could prove an informative contest for the remainder of the season.
A competitive Newmarket Racecourses Fillies’ Handicap follows with 14 entries, before a 17-runner entry list for the one-mile Newmarket Handicap, featuring several improving three-year-olds from leading Newmarket yards.
The ever-popular Bunbury Cup, one of the meeting’s traditional highlights, has attracted 24 confirmations. Experienced campaigners such as Two Tribes, Vafortino, Witch Hunter, Nostrum and New Image remain among those engaged for the fiercely competitive seven-furlong Heritage Handicap.
Juvenile talent again takes centre stage in the Superlative Stakes, where nine promising two-year-olds remain in contention. The Group 2 contest has often provided future Classic contenders, making it one of the most closely watched races of the festival.
The closing stages of the programme feature a competitive seven-furlong handicap with 23 entries before the HKJC World Pool Handicap over one mile and four furlongs rounds off the afternoon with 12 remaining contenders.
The Newmarket July Cup 2026 runners will be finalised after declarations later this week, with Saturday’s feature expected to be one of the standout sprint contests of the European Flat racing calendar.
