Sunday’s running of the $100,000 Ballade Stakes at Woodbine delivered a compelling late-running performance as Sinclairity produced a decisive stretch surge to capture her first stakes victory in a strongly contested six-furlong sprint for Ontario-sired fillies and mares.

The race, which unfolded at a searching early pace, ultimately belonged to a closer who found her best stride when it mattered most.
Early pressure came from Olivia Rose and the 33-1 outsider Cara Cara, who set a lively tempo through an opening quarter in :22.41. Behind them, the race began to take shape as Little Teddy — last season’s champion female sprinter — settled into a stalking position, tracking between Foresters Exec and Minimum Forty. Sinclairity, meanwhile, was anchored near the rear of the nine-runner field, patiently handled and allowed to find her rhythm under regular rider Pietro Moran.
As the field approached the turn for home, Little Teddy edged forward to challenge Olivia Rose, bringing the pack into closer contention through a half-mile in :45.44. The favourite momentarily looked poised to strike as she was asked to quicken by Austin Adams, but the early pace began to take its toll on the front end.
It was at this stage that Sinclairity began to unwind a powerful run down the outside. Still last turning in, she switched into top gear approaching the final furlong, sweeping widest of all and gathering momentum with every stride. Home for a Rest also launched a determined bid between rivals, while Give Me the Boots tried to sustain her challenge closer to the rail.
Inside the final eighth of a mile, Sinclairity had fully arrived. Striking the front in the closing strides, she drew clear to score by a length and a half in a final time of 1:10.54, confirming a career-best performance in her stakes debut.
Trainer Kevin Attard was full of praise for the mare’s composure and the timing of her run, noting the quality of opposition and the way the race unfolded. Jockey Moran also highlighted how the race shape suited her finishing kick, despite being positioned further back than initially planned.
Home for a Rest stayed on for second, with Give Me the Boots finishing third. Olivia Rose was a close fourth, just ahead of Little Teddy in fifth after her early effort.
Bred in Ontario by Tabitha Lee, Sinclairity is by Souper Speedy out of Heres Mud Inyr Eye (Court Vision). Her career has been marked by both promise and patience, beginning with three straight victories interrupted by a lengthy layoff, followed by a testing run of defeats before a confidence-restoring win in her recent prep.
Sunday’s success marked a significant breakthrough, lifting her record to five wins from 12 starts and enhancing her strong form at six furlongs.
For connections, it was a rewarding afternoon that confirmed Sinclairity’s place among the more progressive sprinters in the division, with her late acceleration proving the decisive factor in a race shaped by early speed.
