Ripon Racecourse welcomes runners, connections, and racegoers on Monday, 6 July, for an entertaining six-race Flat turf meeting that blends promising young talent with experienced handicappers. Known as the “Garden Racecourse,” Ripon is one of Yorkshire’s most attractive sporting venues and regularly stages competitive summer fixtures on its undulating turf track.

Horse racing has been part of Ripon’s heritage since the early 18th century, making it one of England’s oldest racing centres. The current racecourse has earned a reputation for its picturesque surroundings, welcoming atmosphere, and challenging layout that rewards both speed and stamina. Monday evening’s programme continues that tradition with races ranging from juvenile novice events to competitive handicaps.

The action begins at 6:09pm with The Download The Raceday Ready App Fillies’ Restricted Novice Stakes (Class 5) over six furlongs. Open to two-year-old fillies, the £9,000 contest offers several young runners the chance to make an encouraging start to their careers. Juvenile races at this stage of the season often introduce horses capable of progressing through the ranks in the coming months.

At 6:39pm, attention turns to The Merit Estates Chartered Surveyors Restricted Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (Class 5) over one mile and four yards. Restricted to fillies aged three to five, the £9,000 contest provides another valuable opportunity for lightly raced horses seeking their first career victory. The mile distance is expected to test both tactical awareness and finishing strength.

The third race, scheduled for 7:09pm, is The Napoleons Casino and Restaurant Leeds Handicap Stakes (Class 5) over one mile and four yards. Open to horses aged four years and older rated between 51 and 70, the race offers ÂŁ9,000 in prize money. Experienced campaigners are expected to feature prominently as they compete over a distance that often rewards consistency and patient riding.

The highlight of the evening comes at 7:40pm with The Mark’s Choice, Ripon’s Most-Winning Horse Handicap Stakes (Class 4). Worth £12,000, it is the richest race on Monday’s programme and is run over a sharp five furlongs for horses aged three years and older rated between 61 and 80.

A competitive field has been assembled for the feature sprint. The top weight is a course-and-distance-winning gelding from David O’Meara’s stable, carrying a mark of 82 after returning with a promising third-place finish on his latest outing. Kodiac Thriller (IRE) represents Mark Walford and is another proven course-and-distance performer who will be partnered by Rhys Elliott.

Reigning Profit (IRE), trained by Ruth Carr, returns to a venue where he has previously enjoyed success and will aim to improve on recent performances. Vince L’Amour (IRE) from the Tim Easterby yard also has winning course form and brings valuable sprinting experience to the contest.

Recent winner Tees Aggregates (IRE) arrives in good form for trainer Adrian Nicholls after securing victory on his latest start and could look to build on that performance. Rock of England (IRE), trained by Paul Midgley, is another course-and-distance winner and has shown consistent form during the current campaign.

Adding further local interest is Mark’s Choice (IRE), the horse after whom the race is named. Now trained by Gemma Tutty, the veteran gelding remains a familiar and popular performer at Ripon, having enjoyed tremendous success at the course during his career. Canaria Queen (GB), representing Tim Easterby, is another previous course-and-distance winner capable of delivering another competitive performance, while South Parade (IRE) completes the field for the training partnership of Richard and Peter Fahey.

The fifth contest at 8:15pm is The Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Handicap Stakes (Class 6) over one mile, four furlongs and 14 yards. Open to three-year-olds rated between 46 and 60, the ÂŁ7,000 race offers developing stayers another valuable opportunity to gain experience over middle distances.

The evening concludes at 8:52pm with The David Chapman Memorial Handicap Stakes (Class 6) over six furlongs. Open to three-year-olds rated between 46 and 65, the closing race also carries prize money of ÂŁ7,000 and provides an appropriate conclusion to the meeting.
