The demanding Port Hercule arena once again rewarded courage and precision as American rider Kristen Vanderveen produced a superb jump-off performance aboard Starbucks 27 to capture the CSI5* 1.50m Jump-Off Class presented by the Fédération Équestre de la Principauté de Monaco during the second day of the Longines Global Champions Tour of Monaco.

With only a handful of combinations progressing from a testing opening round, the contest quickly developed into a battle of composure and speed. Monaco’s compact arena leaves little room for error, placing equal emphasis on accurate riding and decisive turns, and the five riders who reached the jump-off faced an unforgiving examination.

There was disappointment for Ireland’s Michael Pender and Madgeslane Louis, who narrowly missed a place in the deciding round after picking up a single time fault. One second separated the pair from qualification, ending an otherwise polished performance.

Belgium’s Thibault Philippaerts was first to tackle the jump-off aboard Royal van’t Schawijke and immediately laid down an impressive benchmark. Producing a smooth double-clear effort, he crossed the finish in 34.16 seconds to put early pressure on those who followed.

Switzerland’s Nadja Peter Steiner and Quarantinette vt Hazelarenhoekje looked determined to improve on that mark but paid the price for attacking the course, bringing down two fences during their round.

The decisive moment arrived when Vanderveen entered the arena with Starbucks 27. The American found an outstanding rhythm from the opening fence and committed to bold, economical lines throughout the shortened course. An aggressive turn midway through the round gained valuable time, and she maintained that momentum to stop the clock at 33.78 seconds without fault, securing what proved to be the winning performance.

Australia’s Edwina Tops-Alexander appeared capable of challenging the lead with Cydello after another fluent display, but a rail at the final obstacle denied her a place at the top of the standings.

Mexico’s Carlos Hank Guerreiro partnered H5 Diachango Blue PS to another polished double-clear effort but finished just outside the leading time, while France’s Kevin Staut and Ever de Turan completed a faultless round to secure third place.

Further clear rounds came from Ireland’s Denis Lynch aboard Chicago, although his measured approach left him outside the podium positions. Germany’s Philipp Weishaupt and Oreo D.R. looked set to threaten the leaders before a single fence fell, while Belgium’s Niels Bruynseels and Chacco’s Lando OL also incurred four faults.

The victory adds another notable international success to Vanderveen’s growing record and highlighted her ability to combine speed with remarkable accuracy under pressure. The result also strengthened her standing during another memorable edition of the Longines Global Champions Tour Monaco, where every fraction of a second proved decisive.
