Southwell Racecourse Unveils Eight-Race Programme for Sunday

The Nottinghamshire racing venue, Southwell Racecourse, will stage an eight-race Flat fixture on Sunday, 5 July, with a balanced programme of handicaps, novice company and staying contests. The meeting will begin at 2:02pm and conclude at 5:55pm, featuring races for three-year-olds, older horses and progressive fillies. With prize money ranging from £9,000 to £15,000, the card will provide a competitive afternoon of racing across a variety of distances.

Race 1 will get the afternoon underway with the Handicap Stakes (Class 5) at 2:02pm. Run over 1m 14y for three-year-olds, the opening contest will carry £9,000 in prize money and is expected to attract a field of 14 runners. Areti, Constant Star, Pepsea, Cliff Danger, Alpine Culture and Lillie Margot are among the notable runners set to contest the opener.

The focus will then shift to Race 2, the Handicap Stakes (Class 5) (Division I), at 2:32pm. Contested over 7f 15y for horses aged four years and above, the £9,000 event is expected to feature 10 runners. Anthropologist, Tennessee Gold, Surprised, Suhub, Symphony of Joy and Wadacre Maestro headline the anticipated line-up.

Competitive handicap racing will continue in Race 3 at 3:05pm with Division II of the Handicap Stakes (Class 5). The 7f 15y contest for 4YO+ runners will also offer £9,000 in prize money and is expected to draw nine runners, including Tough Enough, King of Fury, Noble Guest, Blazing Son, Pickersgill and Portman Blue.

The programme will move into novice company with Race 4 at 3:40pm, the EBF Fillies’ Restricted Novice Stakes (Class 5) (GBB Race). Covering 7f 15y, the £9,000 event for three- to five-year-old fillies is expected to attract 14 runners, with Matilda Bea, Ancient Realm, Cixi, Hamda’s Joy, Miss Gallant and Royale Union among those due to line up.

Sprint specialists will take centre stage in Race 5 at 4:15pm with the Handicap Stakes (Class 3). Run over the sharp distance of 4f 215y, the contest for horses aged four years and above will be worth £15,000 and is expected to feature nine runners. Kylian, Tropical Storm, Alligator Alley, Naana’s Sparkle, Rapper’s Delight and Canon’s House are among the expected participants.

The emphasis will then switch to stamina in Race 6 at 4:50pm with the Handicap Stakes (Class 5) over 1m 6f 21y. Open to three-year-olds and upwards, the race will carry £9,000 in prize money and is expected to feature eight runners. Tripoli Flyer, Dino Bellagio, John Galt, Baltic, Senor Cortez and Premier are among the horses set to contest the staying event.

Race 7 will provide another competitive middle-distance contest at 5:25pm with the Handicap Stakes (Class 4) (GBBPLUS Race). Run over 1m 3f 24y for 4YO+ horses, the race will offer £12,000 in prize money and is expected to attract eight runners. Northwest Passage, Crystal Mariner, Club Class, Jupiter Ammon, Forever Penywern and Aulis feature among the expected starters.

The eight-race programme will conclude with Race 8 at 5:55pm, the Handicap Stakes (Class 3) (GBBPLUS Race). The closing contest will be run over 2m 102y for horses aged four years and above, carrying £15,000 in prize money. A field of five runners is expected, with Sixpack, Sax Appeal, Alrazeen, Boatswain and New York Minute set to round off the afternoon’s action.

Southwell’s Sunday fixture will present a well-balanced programme featuring competitive handicaps, a novice event and races ranging from a sharp sprint to an extended staying test. Healthy field sizes across much of the card, combined with competitive prize money and varied race conditions, will ensure another engaging afternoon of Flat racing at the Nottinghamshire venue.
